Re: Halloween Unveiling 2018

Mine is older too, but I always use it. I am at the point where I wish someone would confront me.

I don't know about senile, but he comes across as angry old man who feels that it is about time he had the power.

What are you all doing here? Some old man screaming at clouds said we were supposed to take a social media break.

Re: I got the dreaded call (email actually)

The best part is that not only do you get to the prison every Sunday, but the times are such that you won't have to miss your ward too.

Re: I got the dreaded call (email actually)

Would this be to run an LDS service, or a non-denominational service? It is an LDS service. I wouldn't be in charge and there are about 3 or 4 people in each meeting from the church. No way to go off in my own direction. When I told my wife, she laughed. "You hated prison." (I taught a community co...

Re: I got the dreaded call (email actually)

Well I met with the stake. They want me to serve in the prison branch. Every Sunday you go out and meet with whoever shows up. I told him I would talk with my wife and get back to him.

Re: I got the dreaded call (email actually)

I actually got a very nice response from the stake clerk. He said he understood, he has a son who is in the same place. The meeting is for a calling that would not take any time outside of the Sunday block. No teaching, etc.. I agreed to meet with him on Tuesday. The guy who did all of the tech supp...

I got the dreaded call (email actually)

Last night an email arrived in the family inbox. It was from the stake executive secretary wanting to set up a time to meet with the SP about a stake matter. Only thing I can think of is that I told the EQP I didn't want to participate in the ministering program. After ignoring it last night my wife...

Re: Missionary name badges

I think that the missionary tags are hilarious and very pompous when worn by the old couple who work at the cannery. It is nothing more than a name tag for work. Take it off when you aren't working. The whole printing though is also stupid. They need to be read just the way they are printed. (Quietl...

Re: Has anyone attended UU in Reno?

UNR is a good school. I graduated and worked there. It has really grown in the last few years. There is a number of student groups and clubs to help build community. I don't know much about the churches in the area. I was still TBM while I was there.

Re: Has anyone attended UU in Reno?

I have heard mixed things on the group, but have never attended. I think that like most UU it is a mixed bag.

I am about 25 minutes south in Carson.

"If you can't feel the spirit you are the problem..."

The lesson today in EQ was horribly condescending. Thanks to a friend of the teacher who came out on Facebook about leaving the church we got to hear about how much we are at fault if we don't feel the spirit. We are to blame if God will only help us find our keys but won't testify to us the truthin...

Re: New Ministering Program

Our Ward hasn't even started the ministering yet. The EQP was conducting interviews the last two weeks to make assignments. I got asked to come in for an interview and politely declined. I told the EQP that I wasn't going to participate in the program. This process is a total cluster in my ward. The...

Re: Just popping in, again.

Lucky you, emower. I just can't rock the boat that much. I quietly go to SM with the wife. I usually ditch out on the rest. I just told the EQP last week that I wasn't interested in participating in ministering. I am sure that will go around the ward, but I don't give a damn anymore. The bishop alre...

My kids play Fortnite 27 hours/day or so it seems. Do these internet filters also help control ps4 play time?
Parental controls on PS4 can limit time. I use it with my 11 year old. He only gets 90 minutes a day and it keeps track if he logs off and starts again.

Sacrament Meeting Shooting

In case any of you missed it, on Sunday July 22 a man walked into Sacrament Meeting after the Sacrament and killed a man. The man he killed was his home teacher/ministering brother. He then left and went home. He was arrested and is being arraigned. This man is apparently newish convert, and accordi...

Great talk in SM yesterday

A young married man in our Ward spoke yesterday. He gave the topic and then begged forgiveness for the liberties he was going to take. He brought in quotes from Kant, Lewis, Cicero and others to speak of beauty, love and peace. He talked about how we aren't truly loving if we judge someone because t...
