Re: Russ Nelson announces
Yesterday while with a group of TBM family engaging in a lively discussion of Monson and Nelson I killed the conversation by saying,"I think it is a bit weird to call a press conference to announce yourself as the new prophet." Mic drop.... crickets. Now on to what's on TV................

Re: An open letter to Thayne
I had a few conversations with him too about his wanting to find someone to take over. I know he was getting tired and wanted to move on. What was surprising though was the abruptness of his departure and the demise of the original NOM. I am sure this was not a easy decision for him to make. No matt...

He also believed in and was captivated by the idea of magic and scrying, possibly to the point that he believed to some degree that he was doing it. Add to that ambition, a natural talent for story telling, and an above-average intellect that was unfulfilled due to undereducation and in need of an ...

Re: Question: Why did JS do it?
They all have or had an over-abundant belief that they were special, that they and they alone had the answers to problems, and that they had to be revered. They demanded perfect loyalty from followers, they overvalued themselves and devalued those around them, they were intolerant of criticism, and...

So he could use religion as an excuse to become: 1- An adulterer 2- A child sex offender 3- A swinger 4- A con artist 5- The king of the world. I feel like I'm forgetting something. That's a pretty good list ..... but let's not forget what the church describes JS as being: Prophet of God, Seeker of...

Re: Question: Why did JS do it?
I appreciate this question, its probably number 1 on DW's list of Q's to me. I think her question is more like: Why not just live a normal life unless God really did direct the work? or How could something so good come from a con? This is exactly what I used to say! I just went straight to my good ...

Forgive me if I ruffle a few feathers here with the "cult" word (hope I can use this word) but here is an interesting article on cult leaders. I am trying to be sensitive here because I know there are some here who might not agree with the cult association and might be offended. That is not my inten...

Re: Re-Adjusting to Life!
I still consider myself a very spiritual person but have realized that my spiritual path does not and probably won't look like anyone else's. I have come to the conclusion that is what spirituality is really all about. If it turns out that there is a purpose to life I suspect it is for each of us t...

Re: What was / is your purpose in being part of the church?
My ancestors bought Josephs tale back in Europe and sailed across and then made their way to Utah and some to California. So I was born into the church. I resigned at age 63. Up to that point for the most part I was a devoted TBM. Did the temple marriage, and had the boat load of kids. I am divorced...

Re: Don’t let me regress
Sooo, there is a major rift in the family. I’m not going into details, however please just know - it’s bad. What was supposed to be a positive event went horribly, tragically bad. That being said, there is a now a massive disturbance in the force. My plan for the foreseeable future is simply to sta...

He developed excellent skills in fraud during his treasure digging days. He would con people out of their money telling them the treasure they were digging for had sunken deeper into the earth and that is why they never found the treasure. He built on that thrill he got defrauding people and create...

Question: Why did JS do it?
Question: If JS made up this whole church and BOM up then why do it in the first place? Think about it.... it really was one crazy idea. I can't imagine what JS was thinking when he decided to write a crazy long boring book, call it scripture from god found on secret ancient gold plates and sell it ...
Re: Garments
Ben it sounds like you still have a lot of unanswered questions or maybe didn't have success outside of Mormonism so went back to where you were comfortable and welcomed with opened arms. There's nothing wrong with wanting acceptance and to be where we feel at home. We all want that, and if that is ...

Re: Sending children away to relatives
I had a good friend do this. DD about high school age started acting up so they shipped her off to her TBM aunt in Utah. Also, two families in my Midwest ward did the same thing when their kids were teenagers. Kids were acting out, didn't want to go to church, etc. They were shipped off to relatives...

I notice a few TBM cousins over the holidays sneaking a cup of coffee down at the hotel breakfast buffet and adding a packet of hot chocolate to it... and that's just what I did with this mornings cup o Joe. Topped it off with a squirt of whipping cream. Wow! I'm enjoying this cup of hot delicious e...

Roadtrip on the Extraterrestial Highway
A recent trip through Nevada took me down Area 51's Extraterrestrial Highway. Aside from driving through that area in the dark and all the jokes in the car that kept us going it was for the most part an uneventful trip. FYI: I don't recommend driving this road in the dark due to aliens and cows. We ...
Re: Garments
So, popularity aside I’ve come to be a believer once again. As part of that, I’m lookin at garments and trying to sort out what will fit. Did the church change the way these fit? I ordered some bottoms that fit super weird...I ordered short and the run well past my knee. And barely cover my caboose...
