Re: Attorney Friend Leaves Church--Shelf Nuked
I am familiar with this box of which your friend speaks. I'm sorry for the heartache he is about to go through. He is lucky to have an intelligent, well- read and good listener friend like you consiglieri. We should all have such a friend. Or maybe be such a friend.

Re: Dinner with EQP coming up
Once when we were new in a ward, the Institute Director's family invited us to dinner. Our kids were about the same age. After dinner it turns out he had a "message" prepared which turned out like a FHE, and he asked us about our scripture study habits. Awkward.
Watch out for bait and switch.

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #13 - Garments
No, no, and no. I did, however, laboriously pick out the threads of the markings on the garments I chose to keep. Those thermal long johns are nice to wear when snowshoeing. Yep, nice to wear when it's cold. I still have two pair of long johns; wish I had three more but I'm no longer eligible to bu...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #15 - Self evaluation
This question hits on the very reason I will never go to another temple recommend interview. I don't give any random LDS man the authority to judge my worthiness. Period. Ironic, isn't it, that the final question asks you to judge your own worthiness. Yet in the final tally, they will judge you base...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #14 (the only one focused on the past vs present)
No. Never was. This sounds like a blanket disclaimer to cover anything the former questions might have missed. One last chance to induce guilt where none might exist. What really makes me mad is when I hear of people whose "sins" have already been resolved with authorities, but authorities continue ...

Re: LDS Church and BSA part ways
Do you think the decision to part ways with the BSA and the decision for TSM to no longer attend meetings are connected? Like TSM is getting flack from the Q12 and 70s? I think the way these two events are connected is that TSM is no longer making day-to-day decisions regarding the management of th...

Re: The Church as aGatekeeper
CanOfWorms, my DD also married a nevermo, and it was really hard on her dad. I was torn between her joy at not having to follow the Mormon path for women and my DH's disappointment that there would be an empty chair in the CK.

Re: I don't want to be active anymore
alas, thanks for that view of integrity, that it is acting inline with our values. You said perfectly the idea I was trying to form. Linking my rationale for certain actions to my values became clear to me one day when I was wondering why I have taken this journey so slowly. I didn't necessarily wan...

Re: The Church as aGatekeeper
I'm so sorry. when I was a young bride I didn't think about what it meant for my father to be standing outside the gates when I got married - that's just the way it was. My younger sister got married at a winery last year and my father was so thrilled to be able to attend one of his daughter's wedd...

Re: What was different about the old board?
We need all kinds of perspectives here. Those who have moved on to show the way. Those who are still engaged with the church to show us how. Those who are only involved in the church because of family dynamics. I wonder some about those who are newly in crisis. How will they find the help and suppor...

Re: What was different about the old board?
I am sorry I didn't see this topic sooner. Some great comments and ideas here to answer the question "what is different". I think what is different is evolution. The continuity is lost from the old board so it has to be different now. You know, Thayne was not the only past owner and moderator. Even ...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #8
Do you strive to keep the covenants you have made: I didn't make them. Some medievil (sp. intentional) stone masons made them. They are weirder now that I know the truth than when I was first traumatized by them back in the late seventies. to attend your sacrament and other meetings: Again, these a...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #9 (Hypocrisy at its best)
Anyone who watches the news in Utah knows that a lot of people who get caught ripping off their neighbors turn out to be active recommend holders. I'm sure they have no problem answering this question. The church wants the outside world to view members as being honest people. I think this question ...
