Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!

I can specifically recall following the guidance of the church and asking Godde for direction and personal revelation when I was questioning wearing the garment as instructed. As I prayed, I received a prompting to turn on the TV. No sooner had I done that, the answer to my prayers came in the form...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!

Questions to ask: -Where in scripture does it tell you how to wear your underwear? Where are garments even mentioned? -Did Joseph Smith receive a direct revelation that tells us how to wear garments? -Has any prophet declared that the voice of God told him that garments must be worn 24/7? -Has the c...

Re: Would you do it all over?

Had I known what I knew now I would have dropped out of Primary. BUT since I didn't have the benefits of time travel or perfect foresight, I would not change my life. Much of it has been very bumpy, but it is the journey that has made me who I am. My experiences in Mormonism and working my way out o...

Re: Events on Earth 2

Let everyone have existed everywhere experiencing everything - reincarnation, we all experience being poor, being rich, living in each life - equal opportunities, equal existence and experience - it is the only fair and just scenario, for all of us to live through everything then become all-knowing...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!

How bout I just draw some Magick MORmON Masonic Polygamy symbols on myself every once in a while with a Sharpie™? LD$-Inc. could even start selling Consecrated Sharpie's. I'm not sure if it's fully church approved, but I saw an online source selling garment symbol iron-ons, I believe for military p...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!

The church does this to themselves over and over again. It's a pattern. Example: they don't like the negative press about the treatment of LGBTQ kids at BYU so they take the discriminatory language out of the honor code and tell the world the LGBTQ kids will treated like everyone else to prove they ...

Poignant, lovely song from David Archuleta about the moment he told his mom he was stepping away from the Church.

Re: GC wish list !!!

I only wish for two things: 1- A so-called-prophet-seer-and-revelator telling wives that their husbands are no less worthy of love and respect because they don't go around waving imaginary Harry Potter wands. 2- A so-called-prophet-seer-and-revelator spontaneously revealing that he has come to a rea...

Re: Doubt

Self-righteous, elitist, arrogant, territorialist certainty that actually fears truth.......that's the fungus that kills honest spirituality. Not honest doubt. I love it. I always say, certainty is what makes people put on a dynamite vest and walk into a crowded bus station. Like the fungus that en...

Re: Events on Earth 2

I am still waiting for the day when apologetics moves to a parallel universe/alternate history explanation for the Book of Mormon. All of those things really happened, but our current existence has split from that timeline and our current reality did not necessarily literally include those things, p...

Like the fungus that enters these trees, carefully worded denials can invade our thoughts.

Re: Apologizing for your faith?

I like the phrase "I was raised mormon" to describe my position with the church. It's not quite accurate probably since I continue to be involved on the edge of the community, but it's short and gets the point across. Maybe "My family is mormon" would be a better phrase. Those are both great option...

How did Nibley miss this one?

Hugh Nibley is famous for finding the most tenuous parallels between ancient writings and LDS temple ceremonies. For example, he was certain the ancient Egyptians were doing the same endowment we do in Manti, Logan, and Pleasant Grove because an ancient papyrus mentions white and green clothing. I f...

Re: Declining callings and talks is getting easier for me

The BP member thanked us for our efforts but instead of offering another calling, he asked us what calling we would feel comfortable in. We were taken aback and said we'd have to think about it. Bartender! Fashioner of graven images! Strengthening Church Skeptics Committee coordinator! Wish me luck...

Re: NOM needs to be a safe place

Yes, but I should know better than to offer bait. I got thinking about it several days ago and knew I had just given him more to go off about. And then instead of ignoring his rant and taking the conversation back to church topics, I reacted to his derailment. See, I am not always so good myself at...
