Man, you guys really piled it on deep against full authenticity!
OP, I want to be fully authentic too. I dream of just being openly me and lifting that huge weight off. It would be awesome.

Re: Is Church the New Santa
I agree that the access to information is much greater now. The internet was a toddler when I was a teenager, but now google is a trusted source and there are online communities for everything and anyone who is internet savvy knows it. I think that is why church belief is like Santa, the kids are ex...

Is Church the New Santa
I've got a bunch of nieces and nephews and they are growing up so fast. One is at BYU already, and boys are approaching missionary age. But the boys aren't planning to go on missions. At least not the oldest two. One has fully rejected the church and the other seems to just not be into it as much as...

Re: There's no good time to make a break
This post really resonates. There is no good time. When things are bad you don't want to overload, and when things are good you don't want to rock the boat. You don't want screw up the upcoming baptism or baby blessing or temple trip or etc. The only time I make any changes are when I am just so ove...

Re: My parents were called as temple workers
Congrats on stepping back! And I'm glad you are at a good place with your parents new calling. I guess it's no different than playing tennis or golf at the country club. It's keeping them busy until their next mission. I just couldn't let this go. I tried, but here it is... It is different than play...

Re: For those who stopped believing, how *sure* are you that the church is a lie and what makes you so sure?
I'm not 100% sure. I'm only as sure about the LDS church as I am about FLDS, Scientology, Jehovah's Witnesses, and the Santa Claus. I like this. How sure are you that a small sect of Islam is a lie and what makes you so sure? Or Shinrikyo? Or that we are in a simulation (that one is far more likely...

Re: One step forward, two steps back
So sorry jfro! This stuff hurts so much, and just by being hurt about church stuff our spouses feel hurt. My DW and I go through this a lot. Sometimes I think we handle it ok, other times we get mad and have some distance for a while. The hardest part is the lack of resolution. I'm not sure if you w...

Re: I'm Tired
Thanks Reuben, I appreciate your thoughts. My parents have always been orthodox, so I was raised TBM. My uncles all left the church, they were my "apostate uncles". We were never close. I was afraid of them. We might have a nice time doing something, but I was always painfully aware that I couldn't ...

Re: I'm Tired
I’ll add my condolences to the ones written so well previously. It really is a loss in a MFR. My advice is to remember it is the LDS ORG that is most culpable here; not you or your wife. Sadly though, it is a hard colt to dismount from. IMO there will be “sleepless tear-filled nights for your DW no...

Re: I'm Tired
The snarky part of me thinks that deep down she knows if she confronts this that she will see that her position is unfair to me. I keep trying to remind myself that most of the time its the church is the one dishing out those unfair positions, not really the spouse that loves us. If your DW truly h...

Re: I'm Tired
Dr Kristy Money has an free mixed faith marriage workbook. Have you already seen that? Is she open to therapy? Thanks for the suggestion! I started going through the workbook with DW, see the thread here . It started out pretty icy, but I think she is warming up to it. Unfortunately with my current...

Ethos, Pathos, Logos
I read somewhere here or on r/Exmormon that if a friend leaves your religion it is more influential on you than if family does. I apologize for not finding the reference. But it reminded me of a persuasive speaking class I took in college where they used a model for persuasion where the three pillar...

Re: I'm Tired
Thank you again to everyone for commiserating with me, I really appreciate it. Part of this is compounded by a particularly draining few months at work. I just can't handle both. I had to take an extra day off just to get back to not freaking out. Things were better until lunch time today... I spoke...

Re: Brother Jake Defends the Book of Mormon, Part 3
Forgive me for my politically incorrect question/observation and total hijack of this thread but why are 90% of LDS guys total beta males like this Jake fellow? 75% of the guys in my ward look like they would lose a fight to an emaciated Peewee Herman. What's a beta male? I've only seen the term a ...

Re: Meilingkie is divorcing
The crazy part is this. I mentioned our divorce and the how, why, when etc to people in the LDS-church, as well as with the people in the Evangelical Church I attend sporadically. The reactions could not have been more different. The LDS-crowd was positively friendly, encouraging, comforting. The E...

Re: Poll: Mormon identity and its effect on emotional health
I no longer think of myself as mormon, though I masquerade as one on weekends. My beliefs fall into Agnostic Athiest, with the emphasis on not knowing. I don't feel part of any agnostic athiest community, I feel more connection to online tech blogs and NOMish sites.

Thanks for the kind words. I think DW has it in her to accept me as I am someday, hopefully it comes soon.
