Re: Temple changes

Looks like the church sent an email announcing that folks can submit names for the temple prayer rolls online. Before you get excited about submitting Boaty McBoatface, you have to log into your church account first.

Re: Dad allegedly chokes son for refusing to serve a mission

Found out the abuse was regular and the kids are heroic for getting their Dad arrested to allow them to escape this situation. The religion sure does provide cover for these cowardly assholes!

Old religion in a new bottle

I thought this article was an interesting treatise that the new wave of political cancel culture is a merely a return of puritan type religious thought. Driven by the fall of protestantism over the last several decades.

Re: Temple changes

I have heard rumor from a bishopric acquaintance that in the new version only the witness couple receive the tokens. I wonder if anything changes at the veil.

Someone posted a comment with the paragraph on "honesty" from gospel principles on Gee's video. [emoji1]

Re: New Mormon Stories/RFM interview with Egyptologist Robert Ritner

Does anyone want to take a stab at listing new or groundbreaking comments made during the series? For me I think it was mostly known info with extra ball busting of the apologetic arguments. The Anubis printing plate jackal snout removal thing was new to me. I haven't hit the portion where they thra...

Re: JST Q&A article with McGee & MacKay

Interestingly I don't recall JS giving attribution credit in the BOM intro to Johnathan Edwards for all the phrasing from his sermons. I'm looking now and I can't find anywhere that JS gives the Campbellites credit for the idea of the Melchizedek priesthood, Swedenborg for the multiple tiers of hea...

that children born to a surrogate mother can be sealed to parents in a temple only with First Presidency approval. What is the rationale for this requirement? Right? I'm confused on that one too. And it's particularly sh!tty even for the HOI. They put all this pressure on women to become mothers an...

JST Q&A article with McGee & MacKay

https://www.fromthedesk.org/producing-ancient-scripture/ Wow, what an interesting attempt to explain away the Adam Clarke plagiarism. Sample: What about the fact that Joseph Smith did borrow from Adam Clark. Does this constitute plagiarism? Mark Ashurst-McGee: No, not necessarily, and here’s why. Pl...

Re: New Mormon Stories/RFM interview with Egyptologist Robert Ritner

To get John Dehlin's voice to "normal" I had the speed at 1.8x and the pitch at like 150%... it was the weirdest thing. I don't know what Dr. Ritner normally sounds like to see why Dehlin sounded like a possessed demon and RFM sounded normal... pretty sure the adversary was trying to stop that podc...

Re: Suit worship driving me crazy

I often try to see things how an outsider sees them and it is an uncomfortable exercise. Speaking of business suits I once had a catholic friend visit a sacrament meeting long ago and the remark was "You guys in your suits make it seem like a business meeting". Early Cogdis seeds produced.

Re: New Mormon Stories/RFM interview with Egyptologist Robert Ritner

Did anyone else notice that the youtube video speed seemed slightly slow so that John D sounded like he had a Demon voice? [emoji1] I had to speed that video up to 1.75x to get through it. I have to say Mr. Ritner is a class act for giving his time on the topic and I hope he finds that brave kidney ...

Re: New Mormon Stories/RFM interview with Egyptologist Robert Ritner

I wrote to Ritner to thank him for doing this and got a very kind response. He told me that he's going to record another 3-4 hours on Monday. He said, "I am humbled that my work has had a useful impact on your life, and I am genuinely grateful for the support of the community. It is particularly he...

Re: Temple time capsule opened 128 years later.

It looks like concrete was a bad choice for the time capsule. A lot of the material was greatly damaged. Too bad. :? If it had been preserved better they probably would have claimed a "miracle". This reminds me of the time on my mission when the mission president had to correct the false notion bei...

New handbook changes

Looks like some new changes. I no longer have to ask my regional sales manager bishop down the street if it's cool if I get a vasectomy apparently, although it's still discouraged. Also if you're a young teen who has a kid out of wedlock you have the option to jump straight into Elders quorum or rel...

Re: Susan Easton Black Rips Benjamin Park a New One

Her multi-volume works on early church membership records are widely regarded as an unfortunate, non-scholarly joke. Makes you wonder if Dr. Easton-Black was the Interpreter's first choice to write this hit piece? I'm trying to picture Susan dictating a hit piece in that sing songy primary pentamet...

I'm a weird one, but I found the other restoration sects interesting as a missionary, started seeing all the parallel beliefs, deep dive into doctrinal origins, realized we have nothing original like I once thought. Also much like Haley Lemon the JST Adam Clarke scholar, I was bored in Sunday School...
