Re: Hi! I'm back (or rather NOM is?)

So glad to see NOM back and hear from some old friends and new ones. I started my faith transition more than 7 years ago and am now an agnostic atheist undercover Mormon. I stay on the rolls for my family, but will hopefully be fully out after my parents (90s) pass. My DW still attends, but in the ...

Re: Common Abbreviations / Acronyms

I just meant to point out that tl;dr does mean too long; didn't read, but it's used in front of a short synopsis usually whether written by the OP or as a funny/snarky comment by someone else. People don't use it as a stand-alone abbreviation normally. So, do you think I should just put "Too Long D...

Re: Common Abbreviations / Acronyms

My understanding of tl;dr is that it stands for "too long; didn't read" which is rude, but might be an easier way to remember what it is people are saying. L I've never thought of it as rude (but I see your point if it's used as an insult). I think I've mostly seen it used by the person writing a l...

Re: Quinn Toned Down "Magic World View" To Save His Job

Thanks for that link, Allie Oop - so many of the well-known authors had already been through their LDS journey when I joined, and I am still learning their stories. I should know this, but is Quinn the one who is supposed to release the expose' on finances sometime soon? I think i reserved a copy o...

Re: Quinn Toned Down "Magic World View" To Save His Job

I heard Quinn speak at a Mormon Stories conference. He said that at one time he was told that he was on track to to become a General Authority, something that he really wanted. Before he published the book he met with Spencer Kimball, who he considered a close friend, and asked him if publishing wo...

Re: Glad to see NOM 2.0 up and running!

How are you all doing? :) Oh wow! Leukarktos!!! I have a few threads saved from the old NOM forum and I saw some posts from you as I was reading through them the other day. I paused at your posts and wondered how you were doing and hoped you'd find us again :) How is life going for you now? There a...

Re: Greetings from Awake!

I went searching for NOM in October for the Halloween unveiling - (If only to show Moksha my curls)... and lo and behold it was gone!!!! Luckily, a NOMmie showed me this NOM 2.0 and I ran over here to grab my username before someone else stole it from me. Glad NOM lives on. Yes, Moksha missed your ...

Re: I wonder where _____ is???

Sometimes on discussion boards, the people that post the most often are the most visible. But this doesn't mean the most valuable. There have been so many good people on NOM over the years that don't post very often but when they do, it's a true pleasure to read. This is so true. And, one might not...

Re: I wonder where _____ is???

I certainly don't ascribe any malice to the OP or those who have commented. I just find the parallel interesting and my own emotional response to the subject matter even more interesting. This says more about me than anything else. I'm not surprised that no one has mentioned my old NOM identity. I ...

Re: Dad confronts me about FC

The Ford, Chevy analogy never gets taken to it's logical conclusion, which is that you don't just go to a Ford dealer to learn about Fords either. You read Consumer Reports and talk to former Ford owners, especially the ones who had a bad experience. Oh wow...yes. That is so true. The last person I...

Re: Dad confronts me about FC

I'm still waiting for this to happen. I'm sure it will be relatively soon, and perhaps I may facilitate the discussion so it can be on my own terms. But I dread it. My dad is very well read, knows and uses much of the apologetics in regards to the church, so I already know there won't be much point...
