I'm so, so sorry you and your family are going through this. Words are inadequate I know, but I hope you have people around you IRL who can bear you up and give you the kind of support that actually comforts and helps.
Hugs.

Re: Mormon guy's adoption scheme...again
Here are some excellent articles from a crack investigative unit in Hawaii on the scope of this problem. Peterson is mentioned numerous times. Baby selling is apparently a very lucrative business. https://www.civilbeat.org/2018/11/why-a-crackdown-on-this-growing-adoption-pipeline-just-hasnt-worked-...

Re: What if....
Here's my perspective. I didn't grow up in the church; I grew up in a terribly dysfunctional family and made a lot of self-destructive choices before joining the church at 21. For many years the church was a positive influence in my life -- going on a mission, going to BYU, and doing my best to foll...

Re: I choose love, full stop.
Deep down this has very little to do with the LGBTQ issue. It has to do with people demanding that a group, any group change their centuries old beliefs and practices because they don't like them. The majority of LDS people like what their leaders teach. I would say that a majority don't want the L...

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
Just sayin'..... https://www.christian.org.uk/news/girls-skip-school-rather-than-use-gender-neutral-toilets/ One mother said: “The cubicles were open at the bottom and top so older pupils can easily climb up the toilets and peer over.” Again, open cubicles are inadequate in many situations, and doo...

Not buying it and Alas we may just have to agree to disagree here. I always respect your opinions. But in this case I can't see myself repeating your arguments to explain to my eleven year old grand daughter why she is forced to share the public restroom with a 6' 2", 225 lb, male looking, hairy pe...

I'm in the Omaha area. There used to be someone on the old board near here, but I haven't seen him on the new board. If anyone else is here, there's a new local Facebook group that is fairly active and more members would be welcome. We have a fairly large (for a mid-sized Midwestern city) population...

Re: Mass disclosure update
Slavereeno, I have no wisdom to offer, just solidarity and support. In March I waited outside the temple while my son was married. The only difference was that it was pretty well known prior to the day that I was no longer attending the temple. Still it was hard and yes, it made me feel conspicuous....

Re: Writer excommunicated during ‘September Six’ purge loses her bid to rejoin the LDS Church
See the article below: https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2019/09/05/writer-excommunicated/ On Aug. 27, McLean delivered the First Presidency denial. The stake president, who oversees a number of congregations, remained optimistic, she said, zeroing in on the words, “at this time.” But then [Anderson]...

Re: Priesthood keys lesson
Maybe you could talk about service. I no longer have any belief in the authority of the Mormon priesthood, but the good leaders my sons had in YM who took them out on service projects and made it fun and built camaraderie gave them a real gift. In particular, I remember a winter when we had one mass...

Re: Shunning the shunners
The LDS church (and others) are SO misguided on the forgiveness principle. They don't understand it and have actually corrupted it. I've written this before but maybe you all will indulge me one more time? 1. Big difference between "forgiveness" and "reconciliation". Anciently in tribal situations ...

Re: New WOW Video
A search yielded results saying that Rose had a heavy hand in editing the books, but that Laura was the one who wrote them (that would be the initial drafts). Apparently, her writing wasn't good enough for a publisher to want to sell the books, so Rose helped her. I think there's a difference betwe...

I keep glancing at the title of this thread and think it's a thread about Willie Nelson for an instant before I realize it's really about some other dude with the last name of Nelson, and I am disappoint. What does Willie Nelson have to do with MORmONism? https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...

Re: New Wendy Nelson video is giving me a serious case of the heebie jeebies
And, for the record, I absolutely think Wendy was jumping at the chance for that kind of status. I don't know her inner thoughts, but I do not think for a second she was concerned that it was wrong to marry Nelson because that was her ticket to the CK was a polygamous prophet... that's the Mormon d...

Re: New Wendy Nelson video is giving me a serious case of the heebie jeebies
So it’s wrong to call her a gold digger when all she was doing was responding to God’s foreordained plan for her which was to be the SECOND wife of the Prophet, the gatekeeper to late night bedroom revelation, and a social media influencer! You made me laugh as usual, RR -- but I also think you nai...

Re: New Wendy Nelson video is giving me a serious case of the heebie jeebies
Wendy Watson Nelson has made herself a public figure. She was featured in a publicly released video wherein she makes claims about receiving revelation that influence other people in the Church. I don’t think there’s anything at all wrong with looking at the available evidence and critically evalua...

Re: New Wendy Nelson video is giving me a serious case of the heebie jeebies
I'm not a Wendy fan at all. But I am amazed at folks' ability to read her character, desires and intentions, and interpret her life history in such detail. It rivals the ability of my ward members to read and make judgements on my character and life history based on an even closer degree of familiar...

Re: Couples Married Civilly Now Authorized for Immediate Temple Marriage
. . . People will have to truly make it a secular event and then take it to the temple. And you know what? That would be the ideal, both from the church's perspective and from the couple's. There are so many sad stories of bishops who performed the civil ceremony but took the occasion to shame the ...
