Re: Mission rules are now just suggestions.
Now, instead of needing to be 100% obedient to the rules to have the spirit, missionaries will need to be 100% obedient to the principles to have the spirit. I'm skeptical that this will represent any change at all. I think that obedience will still be highly emphasized on missions and that missiona...

Imagine yourself in the Celestial Kingdom. You show up at the party and up walks Russell M. Nelson and starts talking your ear off. You worm your way out of the conversation because, let's be honest, the guy has nothing interesting to say whatsoever, and next thing you know you are cornered by Dalli...

Re: Visiting in laws on a Europe senior mission... such a frustrating trip.
That sounds like the worst vacation ever. Make the most of it, I guess. I went to NYC on a vacation with my wife and she wanted to go to the Manhattan temple while she was there, so I just strolled in Central Park for a couple of hours. I really enjoyed that quiet exploration time. If you are "unwor...

Re: The Holy Ghost vs. active shooters
Like most things, gun carrying in the general population is a mixed bag. If I'm ever in a situation where I'm sitting in church and somebody walks in armed to the teeth and starts shooting the place up, I'd love it if there were an army of off-duty cops sitting there with guns ready to fight back. A...

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
described in the article . I do have to say, though, that the article was terrible. It was written from a tone of Christian fear-mongering about transgender people, which I hate with a passion. The author can't even refer to the kids as transgender, it's "children who say they are transgender." It ...

You kiddin'? We're talking about a God who sent an angel to threaten to kill Joseph Smith if he didn't marry dozens of women. The Mormon God is the Old Testament Jehovah, not the nice guy Jesus.

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
I agree with what those above have written but that wasn't the way you described your daughter's experience in California. It was definitely ambiguous. It wasn't addressing the problem as it was described in the article . I read very well what you wrote. That's why I asked you for clarification. We...

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
Again, open cubicles are inadequate in many situations, and doors and walls that go from ceiling to floor solve the issues. Yes, it was a common area for hazing/bullying of kids when I was young. I'm sure that hasn't changed. People (of all ages and gender identities) deserve a place that is nomina...

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
Ahhhh.... So your girls were changing their pads WHILE men were in the same room with them but the girls were in a stall. Is that what you're saying? I think I've been pretty clear so far. Have you been reading what I have been saying? If you go back and read what I have been saying, I'm saying: 1....

Just sayin'..... https://www.christian.org.uk/news/girls-skip-school-rather-than-use-gender-neutral-toilets/ Saying what? In August we took a camping trip to South Carlsbad State Beach. All of the bathrooms were single toilet unisex with total privacy and locking door with door knob. A couple of my...

Re: Staying Positive While Being a Non-Believer
For me, ambivalence toward the church didn't really kick in until I found a hobby that included a social aspect to it. Now I actually look forward to Saturday morning the way the church teaches that you are supposed to look forward to Sunday, but I go work out with some friends in an Olympic Weightl...

Re: New TR question
How about the new question on keeping the Sabbath Day holy at home and at church. What does that mean to keep it holy at church? Would ordering a pizza to be delivered to the EQ meeting on Sunday afternoon and watching the football game on your phone be considered not keeping it holy at church? I t...

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
I have this really weird notion that stalls could be their own private unisex bathroom and then people of all genders could come out into a larger common area and wash their own hands in the presence of people who may or may not be of their same gender. I know, I'm a weirdo.

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
It would be added expense (it always is  ) but maybe the best solution here is a dedicated gender neutral bathroom as a good compromise. Then men who want privacy can go to the designated mens' bathroom. Women can go to the womens'. And folks who could care less one way or the other can go to...

Re: Questions about YM changes
As much as I loved the church, being in leadership and having that comforting feeling that I was on the Lord's errand, there was always part of me that felt like a hamster on the wheel. My time as Bishop was awful, to be honest, with an abusive SP and a never-ending list of responsibilities that co...

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
This was my thought as well. My teenage son was propositioned in a public restroom, which still freaks me out. Also, this is not a creepy thing (just exasperating), but I've had my share of little kids peeking at me under the stall. I haven't figured out why the American design is for stalls with p...

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way
Not buying it and Alas we may just have to agree to disagree here. I always respect your opinions. But in this case I can't see myself repeating your arguments to explain to my eleven year old grand daughter why she is forced to share the public restroom with a 6' 2", 225 lb, male looking, hairy pe...

Re: Questions about YM changes
That was my very first thought. TSCC has no concern for it's local leaders and their time/family life. Right? I was never a bishop but I had my four kids really close together and was called as EQP right before the fourth one was born. That was just stupid! Life was too busy for me to do all that a...
