Re: 90 % of Utah legislature are LDS
I saw this this morning, it wasn't surprising. https://www.standard.net/news/government/lds-members-account-for-nearly-percent-of-utah-state-legislature/article_9011463b-512e-5220-a5a3-24d68a2a7acb.html I am actually thinking it isn't such a bad thing. My experience from living in Arizona has taugh...

Re: Called in to Meet with SP Counselor
I'm really in favor of boundaries regarding this kind of thing. "In order to make an appointment I need to know the reason for the meeting."
We've been taught to just accept this stuff without asking why. Boundaries are totally healthy and important.

Re: Text from Bishop
"I'm sorry, Bishop, but I have to take care of my health. I have to put my own health and my family first."
Without your health, you have nothing. You can't take care of your family without your health. Even the Church teaches this principle.

Just tell the bishop you're having a same-sex marriage on Saturday. That will end the child baptism harassment...

Re: Still doing it wrong
I kind of want to tell your husband that it's like the Church knows it did something wrong, and is trying to cheat on repentance by skipping over confession and asking for forgiveness, and going straight to an attempt at restitution. It's insulting if it's being done by another person, but even more...

Re: Small and smaller
To the original point, one thing I have noticed more than people leaving is where previously "strong" families just no longer give a crap. While I do see where many kids of active families not staying active after they turn 18, the GenXers, who are now in that perfect age range to serve in callings...

Ikigai, or having a raison d'etre
I have been seeing a therapist over the past eight months or so, which have truly been horrendous. The therapist is helping me to get through a rough patch in my life, and I'm grateful to have the insurance coverage to see her regularly. In order to talk about "ikigai", I have to give you some backg...

Re: Missionary name badges
When I was a missionary in Japan I kind of liked wearing the name tag--it just felt cool. Although being a 20 year old white boy/American riding a bike in a suit was probably a dead giveaway, even without the name tag. On the getting free stuff thing: I haven't been to Church in years and don't plan...

Re: Deacon Interviews--what to expect?
I was introduced to the term "masturbation" and what it means and how to do it by my bishop in a deacon interview. I had never heard the word before then. In our stake they are still asking directly about Masturbation and Porn an denying temple recommends if there has been either in the past 4-6 mo...

Re: Losing the Battle
I'm very sorry for how this must have felt to hear. :( I was a "nearly adult" kid that would never talk to my parents about anything "deep" for similar reasons. Well, adulthood often has a way of beating both your developmentally appropriate adolescence and Fowler Stage 3-ness right out of you. It s...

Re: Former Bishop Accused of Sex Crimes with Boys
At some point, the police got involved. We need more of this. No more handling things "in house". We need more families just calling the cops. I realize the reality can be more complex than just picking up the phone. But I really tire of Bishops and SPs trying to handle real crimes without involving...

Look--everyone with the slightest bit of intellectual curiosity eventually realizes this is all bogus, even if it takes years to deprogram. Meanwhile the others cling to some pre E.A.W.Budge Egyptian fantasy world. Don't dig past that mysterious veneer--you'll find out things you don't like... I'm a...

Re: Behold! The Fruits of E Oaks' Oct 2018 Talk Begin to Ripen!
This woman is clearly extreme and probably no fun at dinner parties. How common do you think this attitude actually is around the church? Has the Oaks talk encouraged his fundamentalist allies to speak up? This woman seems to think so. But look at some of the apologists/defenders on social media si...

Today I came on this Letter to the Editor in the Herald Journal, the major newspaper of Cache Valley where I grew up. Three Years of the POX
Yesterday was the third anniversary of the Church's November 5th policy making same-sex marriage apostasy, and the children of married gays and lesbians ineligible for baptism, the Gift of the Holy Ghost, priesthood, and other ordinances. Unless they disavow their parents' relationship. And turn 18....

Re: My Exorcism
The best story I got is when I exorcized a demon from my bowels in an outhouse in a ghetto of Argentina after eating from questionable food preparation standards of a member family. I sent that demon back to the murky depths of the earth, a hole about 4' deep in some random person's backyard. Staph...

Re: My Exorcism
I was very depressed when I was in my third mission area. The other missionaries in my apartment took me to the mission president to be exorcised. I was too depressed to argue, and maybe somewhere deep down I was amused and interested in seeing what would happen next. After they explained everything...
