Re: First Sunday Councils
Here's the jumping off point. I'm terribly nervous about the "What doctrine, if better understood..." bit but, in the end this is really a hopeful puff piece. https://www.lds.org/ensign/2018/01/to-sit-in-council?lang=eng Oh please, when have any of the Brethren ever taken this approach to leadershi...

Re: Aaronic priesthood boys can now baptize in the temple
So seems like TBMs will not be bothered by this at all. :( Bothered? They'll cheer from the rooftops. Church is boring, ultra-conservative, and predictable. This culture keeps most faithful members in a constant state of being starved for something, anything new. When something new comes along it's...

Re: Aaronic priesthood boys can now baptize in the temple
I read somewhere that organizations with serious problems often make increasingly irrational decisions as time goes on and the issues aren't resolved. It sure feels sometimes as if that is what is occurring these days. Unintended consequences occurring from what they think are inspired decisions. Y...

Re: signing the Sam Young petition about youth interviews
Well, President Newsroom has spoken: http://www.sltrib.com/religion/local/2017/12/12/statement-from-the-lds-church-on-mormon-bishops-interviews/ No acknowledgment of the harm that has been done. No acknowledgement of the danger. No acknowledgement that questions of a sexual nature are asked other th...

Anyone got a link to this whole article,...or any info on it? Consider this direct quote from Zina Huntington as she described romance in polygamy in an article published in New York World in 1869: "[The successful polygamous wife] must regard her husband with indifference, and with no other feelin...

Re: My sister has taken her own life
I am so, so sorry. I know it does no good for me to say it, but please don't blame yourself, the illness is to blame, not you or anyone else. Family members shouldn't blame themselves for this anymore than they would a death of a loved one from cancer or a heart attack or anything like that. It was ...

Re: List of local LDS leaders that law enforcement thinks committed sex crimes – 1 indication youth interviews are not s
Thanks for the list. I have no doubt there are many, many more. Most bishops are indeed good upstanding men, but not all of them. I can't tell you how disappointed I am that the petition has had so few signatures - I expect true believing members to mostly ignore the dangers, but disaffected and ex-...

Re: signing the Sam Young petition about youth interviews
Why are there so few signatures? Fewer than 6,000 signatures isn't enough to get the Church's attention. The Church can't be going through much of a crisis within the ranks if that's all the disaffected and former members who will bother with something so important.

Re: Further redefining of miracles
Yeah, it's a miracle when President Monson announces a speaker who isn't there in a meeting and the guy shows up before the meeting ends. Wow. The Church is true. Let's see, what other miracles have they talked about lately? President Monson knows a guy who put his arm to the square while stranded o...

Abortion. But the Republican Party has them all suckered, because it never actually tries to do anything about it (hope that's not too political).

I've never cared for Terryl Givens. He hawks a feel-good, pliable, cafeteria-style Mormonism that doesn't really exist. He tries to convince us our steel handcuffs are just rubber bands. And I can't abide his "Oh don't worry your little head about those pesky historical things, if the Church makes y...

Re: The mormon machine is too strong!
I'm sorry for what you are going through, I am there with you in the same boat. It's getting harder and harder to do this. This is an example of why the Church is not a benign, harmless religion - it is toxic and harmful to families starting the second any member of it begins to diverge from the Mor...

Re: Elder Ballard: "There has been no attempt on the part of the Church leaders to try to hide anything from anybody"
I should have included this in my previous post, but it didn't come to mind then. Here's a prime example right now of how they literally try to hide church history: Go to lds.org, and try and do a search for: "Helen Mar Kimball" and see what happens. ( Hint : They have literally trained the search ...

Re: Elder Ballard: "There has been no attempt on the part of the Church leaders to try to hide anything from anybody"
Hurray! I still don't know if I'll have the intestinal fortitude to stand up in gospel doctrine and declare what I know. I stuck my head out a little this year and got beaten down. I have conflicted feelings about the question, "Whose fault is it?" The fact is, I knew more that I ever said. I did n...

Re: Elder Ballard: "There has been no attempt on the part of the Church leaders to try to hide anything from anybody"
"If you'd done more research you'd have known we weren't telling you things" is a slimy response to the accusation that they Church has been hiding things. Are most members too uninterested in Church history to do much digging? Sure. Does that justify misleading them by withholding facts that might ...

Re: Elder Ballard: "There has been no attempt on the part of the Church leaders to try to hide anything from anybody"
Other than the outright falsehood Elders Ballard and Oaks propagated in the Face to Face that the Church hasn't ever tried to hide anything, there are a couple of other things about it I find very troubling: The mockery of those who dare suggest that the Church hides things. Since thy can't refute c...
