Re: The cost of serving a senior mission

I know of a senior couple that was living on the east bench in a good size home before their mission. Immediately after they got back, they had to downsize and now they're living in innercity in a rundown neighborhood. Pretty sad.

Re: I've decided I'm not going to church anymore as of today... Now what?

Try and get caught up with the fam on Sunday if that's feasible. I look at Sunday as a catch-up day, if I was extra lazy on Sat. Or if I did good on Saturday with the honey dos I might just fart around on Sunday. It took a while for me to get over the guilt as I watched neighbors drive to and from c...

Re: Do I have regrets?

A question for SeeNoEvil: does resigning help you "let it go?" Like let go of the anger and not dwell so much on how it's affected your life decidions starting from when you were a kid. These internet forums consume a lot of my time and just curious if it gets better after you resign. And maybe your...

Re: How's the new Ministry thing going to work?

For some reason they feel that changing the name of something will fix things and make it better. Sorry but they are still selling the same shitty product. All in all I think the no reporting is a good thing. Now let's work on getting ALL members familiar with the essays and start printing them in l...

Re: Coyote Gulch in Escalante

Thanks for the replies! I did see one pic of some people coming down this route but they didn't have big packs. Either that or they had already lowered them down. I just like the idea of of shaving time off the trip and spending more time down in the Gorge. I will either try the shortcut or crack in...

Coyote Gulch in Escalante

Weird question I know...but just wondering if anyone on here has taken the shortcut that drops you down into Coyote Gulch? I have entered from Hurricane Wash trailhead but it's a long walk just to get inside the Gorge. My main question is if the shortcut is doable for two 49 year old guys with backp...

Re: How's the new Ministry thing going to work?

Thanks for enlightening me. That is a good question on how this change makes it holier. Making it holier is getting rid of it all together and just being a good neighbor. You don't need a calling to be a good neighbor. As far as the #s reporting, I'm pretty sure Uchtdorf gave a talk at GC a few year...

Re: How's the new Ministry thing going to work?

I will have to politely decline if our new HTers/ministry is different from our current situation. Our family has had a husband and wife companionship for HT and they've never left a lesson, never read from the Ensign and they've never left with a prayer. I'm guessing they are aware of my beliefs. I...

How's the new Ministry thing going to work?

All I've heard is that it will be husband and wife companionships? If this is the case, I don't see it working since many couples have one or the other not "in." I just don't envision it being any better than the old system unless they're just going to select only card carrying couples to visit mayb...

Re: What is that you want that the church isn't providing?

You could tell your SIL you have friends (us) that don't attend because they're not keen on the ONE way of thinking and they don't enjoy echo chambes. You could tell her some of your friends would maybe return for even social reasons if their beliefs/nonbeliefs were welcomed. I personally don't fit ...

Re: Anyone else overwhelmed by this MTC confession?

Cont'd Before I started the recording with my DW on J. Bishop, I mentioned to her that a couple of my older brothers were at the MTC the same time he was the MTC President. I then said "yeah, while my brothers spent time on their knees praying, the Sisters were down in the basement on their knees." ...

Re: Anyone else overwhelmed by this MTC confession?

Last night I told my wife how disgusted I was with J. Bishop. I briefed her as to what happened. So she asks, "what websites are you on, you're always looking at anti-mormon websites." I told her, Fox, Salt Trib just to name a few. I was massaging her back during this conversation which she loves an...

Re: Why did I leave?

It was good hearing your story. My mom has been pretty good lately about not asking church questions. I do catch her feeling for my garment line from time to time. By the way, I'm a 48 year old male. Just like you I've done my share of shift work and just ended a 5 year stint of rotating. Now I'm ba...

I guarantee you, knowing my parents that many of their ward members ate deer or elk burger and didn't even know it. No need to buy beef if you have venison in the freezer. No one will know the difference (yeah...right)

Re: emailed EQP that we're taking a break

Sorry, wish I could give you some good advice. Hang in there. Hopefully it'll get better. My wife bas been in a pissy mood on the weekends (the moment she has to start studying for her church lesson) so I called her out on it. Funny how it's made a difference and she doesn't take it out on us as much.

Re: Young Mormon Family Asks: Is There Room for Us in this Church?

I really enjoyed the first video from these guys, however after the second video, I was kind of scratching my head. In the second video they come across as TBMs that fully support the foundational doctrine. If this is the case, I don't know why there wouldn't be room for them.

If you're into hunting, you got the last day of the Expo tomorrow. They do serve beer and being Sunday, you could meet many of us heathens. I will be there.

Welcome. I don't think many members here care about others level of participation. I am glad you have felt the spirit while attending. I used to feel really good also but then realized other people of different denominations felt the same way I did. I learned that much of this was my emotions. I eve...
