My Adventures

It's been awhile since I've been here. I thought I'd check in and let you know I'm okay. I thought I'd bring you up to speed, a little bit, on my adventures. I have had some long standing goals that I have been working on and sitting around commenting on the Church wasn't helping me achieve them, so...

Checking Out, For Awhile

Happy Thanksgiving, NOMs!

I'm going to be checking out of NOM for a few months and wanted to let you know I appreciate all of you and NOM.

I also wanted to beat the Black Friday rush and wish you all a Happy Holidays.

That is sweet that they reached out to you.

I wish we could have a big NOM thanksgiving! :D
That would really be fun.

It would be really fun and my neighbor invited me to Thanksgiving.

A Good Thing

My former VT asked me yesterday and my RSP just texted me. They wanted to make sure my family and I had a place to go for Thanksgiving. Even when I was TBM, we were explicitly told to make sure the people on our routes had a place to go for Thanksgiving. The fact that our religion does this is not u...

find the work women do the in the church so much more valuable and important than any other group. The bishop usually provides meaningful service, but what women do in general surpasses what the men can do.
Thank you.

Re: Celestial Procreation?

Yeah, it's my understanding our doctrine really hasn't changed from the early days. What was explicitly in the temple has merely gone into hiding. I'm not sure where we are on Adam/God. I know it's been disavowed, but the first time I read it, it had the doctrine of Heavenly Father marrying Mary and...

Re: The Unimportance Of Women's Work

Really good points, Jeffret. As I was writing my previous posts and I've been considering this lunch invitation. Yes, the lunch is only one hour, if everyone arrives on time--which they won't. The lunch will be only one hour, if we set a timer and shut down the conversation after forty-five minutes....

Re: The Unimportance Of Women's Work

I am sad this happening. I've seen things like this happen before. Often women are expected, culturally, to just defer to the church, and even though there are some who see things differently, I think the church still stereotypes women as SAHMs being pretty much the only ideal. I had one sister who...

Re: The Unimportance Of Women's Work

Are you in the facebook group Aspiring Mormon Women? If not, you should join it. There's a ton of great dialogue among what I think is mainly believing, if not the majority practicing, some aspects of Mormonism and navigating their broader life goals (school and work achievements). It's an amazingl...

Re: Sealing Cancellation

Women do have options outside of marriage. I love this statement. And,..I want to add to it: men have options outside of marriage too. I am single, not sealed to anyone (including my children if I understand the LDS theology correctly), and over the past year I have been trying on "singlehood" to s...

Re: Sealing Cancellation

I considered polygamy as a crumb thrown to women when it came to light my father wouldn't be in the CK. Let's just say he committed a sin where he isn't even a candidate for the CK. That sin was the culmination of a half a century of abusing my mother. So, here's my mother. Celestially adrift. Excel...

The Unimportance Of Women's Work

My VT comp wants to do a low key VT visit, this month. She wants to do a luncheon for us and all the sisters we VT. In theory, I think this is great. In reality, it poses problems. I work and with commute time, the "just an hour" would turn into two. I don't take a lunch hour, so that I have time af...

I went to a couple of YSA wards that were not mine. I was welcome in one and extended calling in the other. Californians. Just so darned innovative.

Re: New RFM Podcast--Making Doctrine Out of Nothing at All

A couple of years ago when Oaks said that the leaders do not have the keys to extend the priesthood to women, it occurred to me that the leaders do not even appear to have the keys to ask God about the subject. I don't know why a bigger deal wasn't made out of this statement, at the time. Perhaps t...

Re: Celestial Procreation?

Consiglieri's latest Radio Free Mormon podcast discusses the very perplexing concept in Mormon doctrine that Elohim and his wife/wives are the literal parents of our spirit bodies. I'm to wrap my head around what this actually means. The Population Reference Bureau estimates that about 107 billion ...

Re: Mainstream Christianity.

Thanks for the replies. I find it interesting that other Christians expect me to run to put the Bible higher than I did before, because you know, that's actually "God's word." And honestly talking to an evangelical about the bible is just about the worst. I always expected to remain "Christian" but...

Re: Sealing Cancellation

So many people are married for "time and all eternity"....and the church emphasizes over and over the "eternity" portion. Why not place a little more effort on the "time" portion,...hunh? If the church did that, perhaps the "eternity" might work a little better. That was one of my big realizations ...

Re: To out or not to out-- thinking out loud

The thing that stood out to me in your post was, I'm not missing any weddings. My first instinct was just to tell you to throw caution to the wind and embrace what is. Until I read about the wedding thing. If you think your kids are going to get married in the temple and you feel like you have to b...
