Re: World without the Book of Mormon
Utah, Idaho and Arizona would look quite a bit different. Various state boundaries would certainly have been altered. The invention of fry sauce would still have happened although Jell-O molds might never have been imbued with peas and carrots. To add to that list we may never have had alternate cu...

Re: Hello, Again
Well, welcome back. I'm kindof a newbee...but you have been around here it seems. You will get no arguments with me about the misanthropic attitude of the TSCC. Its culturally woven into the history, the doctrines, the policies, the day to day life. At the milder side of the spectrum, it appears dis...

Re: Quinn's book Magic World View
Well,...I keep seeing arguments between FARMS members and Quinn--they attack his work and he blasts back. I think those FARMS guys met their match with this guy Quinn. He appears, if anything, to be one of the best informed people I have ever read. I keep seeing Stephen E. Robinson out there, and th...

Re: Sacred Writings Publishing Question
WOW....again I have learned something I never before considered. That's right,...there was an attempt to sell the copyright. Had that happened, doesn't that take the option of publishing it out of the hands of JS et all? And, if that is the case, how could this "cornerstone of our religion" really b...

Re: World without the Book of Mormon
I saw a discussion on another site that asked, what would the world look like right now if the Book of Mormon never existed? Utah, Idaho and Arizona would look quite a bit different. The rest of the world, not so much. I probably wouldn't exist. (I'm OK with that...) Or maybe we wouldn't have this ...

Re: Hello From Nephi
Yep...in SLC we got a pretty good group going. Some of the people are pretty connected, and by that I mean lots of FLDS and other types of connections that are just fascinating. Its a network.
The network is growing as well, which is quite interesting.....

Re: Quinn's book Magic World View
Culpeper, I remember the treasure "slipping away" part. Your post brought up the memory of that section. It was crazy....these people would believe the treasure (if it existed at all) would somehow slide away through the dirt. I got the impression is was like a worm or something burrowing its way th...

Re: Polygamy Essay
I'm coming into this thread late,...but let me just say the story of Henry Jacobs and Zina Huntington infuriates me! It also blows holes through all the apologetic crap about "surplus girls", and the need for women to marry someone who was "worthy"....etc. What a load of crock. Joseph Smith and Brig...

Re: Quinn's book Magic World View
Back to the book. Quinn pointed out over and over the dishonest and disingenuous statements members of FARMS have made over and over, twisting the narrative to "favor" the prophet. There were also serious time problems with the narrative that appear to be attempts from JS and others to change the na...

Re: Quinn's book Magic World View
It is sooooo strange how the doctrines can be changed. This is something another thread could consume, but I remember how section 132 was just stuck in there. BY put it in there--no vote that I am aware of: it was just pushed. In my own lifetime, I recall when Ezra Taft Benson was feeble and totally...

Re: The funny side of Sunday school - revelation and marriage
This excerpt from the manual gave me a chuckle: 2. Caution about revelation for marriage The following caution from Elder John H. Groberg of the Seventy explains an important principle of seeking divine guidance about whom to marry: “I would … caution you that you cannot receive a one-sided revelat...

I'm brand new here. I'm Nephi...listen to me. I am a profit! :) :) :) :) MM,...you are so NORMAL and not alone out there. I live in the Mormon Corridor, and I feel lonely as well. My family and I have major disconnects over this...but I'm alive and here. I know how you feel. Hold strong...you will s...

Re: Mountain common law
After reading in MormonThink, and also some of the things written from Grant Palmer, I am amazed at the contradictions and conflicts introduced by the idea that JS considered all marriages not solemnized by Celestial (his) Law were really null and void. A very interesting idea is the supposed marria...

Re: Quinn's book Magic World View
One of the things that is the most interesting to me is Quinn published this from the "Faithful" perspective. Quinn was a believing person at the time--he didn't publish this to tear down the church. This book is astonishing to me. The "lamans" (occult parchments) that were heirlooms of the Smith fa...

Quinn's book Magic World View
Hello all. I like to hit the ground running because I haven't had some good discussion in a while. But even though I am no longer LDS, I have respect for others who remain, provided they reciprocate the same. There are many who do--we get along famously. The rest?...I ignore, and there it is. Anyway...

Hello From Nephi
Hello.
I am Nephi.
I'm new. I'm known as Rob4Hope in other sites. This time, I thought I try something different.
I read alot and have an opinion. You will all learn that.
A friend at a post-mo group suggested I try this site. I'm here.
