Re: Forging my own path

So, to all of you that are searching, keep searching. Find your path. Go be yourself. I hear you say this and I know that you really mean it. We've had lunch together and know each other well enough. I'm in favor of being the kind of Mormon I want to be. But I still have told very few people about ...

Re: Sac meeting talk

This sounds like a really cool opportunity! You've basically been given carte blanche to talk about whatever you think could most benefit the people in the ward for 15 minutes. Personally, I would love to do that, but then again, I'm weird... There are so many different ways you could go with this. ...

Re: World without the Book of Mormon

I saw a discussion on another site that asked, what would the world look like right now if the Book of Mormon never existed? That's a very interesting question. I know it's lack of existence would completely change my life, and likely cause that I would not exist, so from that point of view, I'm gl...

Best Gospel Doctrine Lesson Ever!

Yesterday was Sunday number two after getting up the courage to ask a difficult question at a fireside. Shortly after sitting down, I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was a Brother in my ward that wanted to let me know he was glad I was willing to stand and ask that question. I wanted to chat, but the ...

Forging my own path

The last week here has been quite spiritually uplifting for me. I am sure some of you read on my other thread (linked below) how I was able to go to a fireside and ask a question of Elders Rasband and Ballard. Apostle Fireside Over the last week, I've really received a tremendous outpouring of love ...

Thanks, flyer!

I think there's a lot of joy here too. Not the phoney fake-it-till-ya-make-it kind, but the standing on the mountain and seeing the lay of the land for the first time kind.
I'm glad to hear you say that!

There is a lot of pain here

I first signed up for NOM in August 2015 on the old board. Shortly thereafter, I went NOM-inactive and stopped showing up as much. With the new board now, I seem to recognize that there has been somewhat of a shift in the tone of what I read. I'm sensing that there are a lot of people here in pain. ...

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ of Exclusionary Saints.

Personally, I think the LDS church, just like any other group of people, is very INCLUSIVE... so long as you fit in. I had a discussion with my wife the other night on this very topic. Nearly every group of people out there, whether it's Mormons, or JW's, or the D&D club in highschool or the bowling...

Re: I resigned..what? No thank you?

I ask this question in all seriousness. What would you have liked the letter to say? Please don't take this as picking on you, because that is not my intention, but it seems to me that for those that have left the church, it can do no right. I can imagine that if a letter contained information thank...

Re: Apostle Fireside

I've been checking in with a few people I work with that I know are members that might have been in attendance, just to see how my question was received. When I asked one colleague about the fireside today, he mentioned that he had not attended. I asked if he had heard anything about it, and he said...

I've been thinking that with Elder Uchtdorf's GC confession of consuming a celestial beverage that this might have changed a bit. I wonder what it would take to get Coke and Pepsi in the vending machines at BYU?

Re: Previous Callings you've had?

Choir pianist I don't think I listed this one, but this was by far the most difficult calling I've ever had. I'm really not THAT good at the piano, so I was practicing at least 10 hours a week to get ready. I eventually told the bishop I needed out and he obliged by moving me to Primary Pianist.

Re: Previous Callings you've had?

Ward Clerk and chief note taker during courts of love . Since were on page two, thread jacking is now approved. What was it like sitting in on a DC? My dad was on the HC and he'd told me about a few DC in non-specific details. He mentioned one that got pretty nasty and he drew the 'defend the membe...

Previous Callings you've had?

On another thread, MORMORRISEY suggested that we have a thread discussing previous callings you have had. I thought it was a good idea, so here it goes. Branch Presidency Counselor Finance Clerk Primary Pianist Elder's Quorum Presidency Young Men's Advisor Sunday School Presidency I actually really ...

Re: Satan

I described to her what I considered the pinnacle of Mormon obsession with Satan: where Satan would break the fourth wall in the LDS temple ceremony and say (something like) "if you do not live up to the covenants you make at this altar in this temple in this day, you will be in my power". I have a...

Re: Satan

I had several experiences on my mission which lead me to strongly believe in some adversarial force. I most certainly believed it was Satan that was doing these things to me. For a long time, this was a foundational part of my testimony. These experiences where I felt the adversary so strongly were ...

Re: Currently denied by Bishop to give a Baby Blessing...

Based on where you are and where things are heading, you may not want to go here, but the handbook clearly gives you bishop discretion here. 20.1.2 Worthiness to Participate in an Ordinance or Blessing Only a Melchizedek Priesthood holder who is worthy to hold a temple recommend may act as voice in ...
