Re: Do temple oaths really help?
I think the law of chastity oath only works when the other person involved in the covenant breaking isn't LDS, in which case the sight of garments might immediately terminate the negotiation. Ha! Brilliant!!! To add a bit to my previously of-the-hip comment: Anecdotal evidence shows that the divorc...

Re: Do temple oaths really help?
I doubt the "temple oaths" "help" t any more than the "till death do us part oaths" that folks who marry outside the temple make.

Re: As an active NOM, how do you engage the church?
So what strategies do you use to engage with the church or TBMs around you? Fluffy is no longer active, so I don't deal with any leaders. With other TBM's who "know" about my apostate ways, there's basically an unwritten "Don't ask, don't tell" policy in place. I'll readily admit that I'm a complet...

Re: What is Faith?
For example, I have faith that all of you will drive safely on the road in the morning while I drive to work. Do I know this for a fact? No. But almost every morning my faith is justified because I arrive safely at work without incident. This ^ type of "faith" is different than "religious faith" be...

Wow, Mayan Elephant - well said! Your comments have my hearty endorsement. I would like to point out that the website is somewhat dishonest in its response in the FAQ answer to the question "Will the Church Ever Change Its Doctrine and Sanction Same-Sex Marriages?" https://mormonandgay.lds.org/arti...

Re: tithing shake down (settlement)
I'm toying with the idea of telling my bishop that when the church is comfortable releasing its corporate financial information to one of its shareholders, I'll release mine to them. And until that happens, tithing settlement is a no go. I don't think it will end well on the homefront, but it's wor...

Hobbies? Chauffeuring kids to extra-curricular activities. Watching kids' extra-curricular activities. Cleaning up after kids. Spending too much time on DAMU message boards. Listening to DAMU podcasts. Worshiping Gravity on silly wooden toys and bicycles. https://image.spreadshirtmedia.com/image-ser...

Re: Calculating our tithing.
So today my wife and I had a quick talk about tithing. We still attend Church so we want to pay a portion of our costs. We decided to contribute on a sliding scale. Our deductions added up to something like this. Temple attendance: 5% Missionary Program: 2% Youth Programs: 1% Gospel Materials: .5% ...

Re: Was JS the only person who claimed to use seer stones?
Joseph and his seer stone(s). Hiram page, and his magic rock. Oliver Cowdery and his divining rod. (Rod of Aaron.) Magic "Nephite Spectacles"? It all hearkens back to folk magic. It's all over in the Bible too: As mentioned where it talks about "Urim and Thummim(s)." Even Moses and Aaron turning tur...

Were there published rules on NOM 1.0? I probably never read them if there were. But they would be a good starting point for NOM 2.0. Yeah there were "published" rules; Someone probably pulled them from the wayback machine, and posted them on the Reddit NOMforum: Posting Guidelines: please read thi...

Re: Explain your avatar choice
My current avatar is fairly self explanatory. What The Fluff is a slightly more "PC" version of what came to mind when I found out that the church had lied to me for over 40 years. I'm sure my avatar will change to something even more stupider randomly. Maybe something a little more personal next......
