The cockroaches turned out to be crickets which, for some reason, didn't bother me at all. And I did eat the guinea pig. It was pretty tasty.MalcolmVillager wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:14 pmWhat a great experience. I am jealous, cockroaches and all. Just don't the Guini Pigs. I fell in live with Peru on a visit. Would live to go back.

I remember some areas (maybe close to your site) that looked oddly bare- like a desert. That's right. It NEVER rains there, except every 25 years or so when El Nino wreaks havoc, which was a reason for the desperate and bloody religions that tried to appease the gods to keep El Nino at bay. They ir...

I visited Chiclayo - but haven't ventured far off the main roads, as it sounds like you have. That's amazing that you've been to Chiclayo, Newme. If you headed south on the N1 from there you drove right past our site, which is a mountain that has been converted into a multi-walled fortress/temple c...

Consiglieri, I won't have a chance to listen for a while but I'm really looking forward to it. I wonder how many other power grabs of various kinds and lesser degrees there have been in the intervening years. I'm thinking of the way the autopen was used to transfer control of the organization away f...

Re: Moral Dilemma -- to keep something going even if wrong
I remember in one of Bednar's first talks, he mentions being given a set of books and documents he was required to study before he was to be set apart. He said it required "in depth study" and he repeated that phrase with emphasis. I had the impression it was historical stuff, not policy and proced...

Rob, I think all of your justifications apply in various mixtures, depending on the GA in question. I'm quite sure that Dieter Uchtdorf's justifications don't align perfectly with Boyd Packer's, but they both draw from various combinations of those things. Apart from everything else, I imagine that ...

Hugh Nibley did a similar thing when he tried to patch up the innate silliness of the Jaredite story by claiming that they had air compressors and other technology. I remember when I was a kid struggling with the Santa Clause story and I tried to salvage it by convincing myself that he used a sub-or...

I'm back in Zion again. Wow, what a crazy, fascinating experience. I saw civilizations that ranged from 5800 years ago right up to the time of Spanish Conquest, so the Americas were massively populated long before and after BoM times. No gold plates, no wooden submarines. Lots of victims of sacrific...

[I've glanced through it, and self-righteously said to myself: "I already know all of this. Nothing to see here. Move along..." It is pretty hilarious that they consider Jeremy " The One Mighty And Strong 'Anti-Mormon'." I read it but there was nothing I wasn't already aware of. I found his FAIR re...

. One of the most maddening things of all is that she keeps telling me that we cannot anthropomorphize the church. "The Church" is not capable of abandoning, hurting, or otherwise affecting people. It is a thing, that has stuff to offer. Nothing more. Bullshit. Like the way a bank can't kick you ou...
