Re: Living the Middleway again.
Well for those of you that were curious of the process it was as follows : Told the BP I wanted to come back , I had to wait a year then I had to write a letter to the 1st Pres. Explaining why I wished to return. A few months passed then had to interview with the stake Pres. Regular baptismal quest...

Re: 2 faced gentiles
Seriously, mocking people behind their backs isn't cool. Imagine being at dinner with people that mocked Muslims, Jews, Mexicans, or Canadians, or any other group this way. It's disgusting... People in Homosexual relationships, or People that question/leave the church... Two more excellent examples

Re: 2 faced gentiles
When I was beginning my faith transition, I read a great piece on this phenomenon from Rock Waterman about this: http://puremormonism.blogspot.com/2010/08/why-dont-they-like-us.html I would be the guy in that situation that would sit quitely and listen, and then when the guy jokingly 'hoped' that n...

Re: Flat Earth Documentary
Also, I'm involved in the production, testing, and use of ring laser gyros. I've wondered for a while how long it would take some of these flatards to get a RLG and do this test. The fact that they keep ignoring the results is quite sad. I probably need to work on developing more sympathy for flat-e...

Re: Flat Earth Documentary
Unfortunately, this is a topic I know way too much about. My BIL is a flat earther and it has caused a lot of problems between my wife's family and I as I work in the aerospace industry. There aren't a lot of flights that cross the Southern hemisphere. But there are some. The best example is Qantas ...

Re: 2 faced gentiles
Kish, this post in many ways is pretty upsetting to me. During my time as a TBM, I always worked hard to fit in with my neighbors. It also makes me really wonder about the people I work with. I'm definitely known around my office as 'the mormon guy'. I'll just leave this here now. I love the ending....

Re: Missionaries can call home weekly now
BYU NATION Salt Lake, UT Feb. 15, 2019 10:31 a.m. My advice to the missionaries is to still only call home on Mother's Day and Christmas if you want to baptize more and receive extra blessings. The zone leaders and AP's for sure should only call home twice a year to set a good example to the other ...

Re: Does truth really matter?
This is a thread that has been running through my head for quite a long time. The only conclusion I've been able to come to is that truth is relative. As I've had these thoughts, the hymn below has had so much more meaning. I'm sure most people would interpret it to take a more absolute version of t...

Re: Meeting with Bishop Tonight
Good luck. The less you say the better you'll be. "Bishop, I'm dealing with a bout of depression and need to reduce my life responsibilities including my church calling. It's been fun, thanks for understanding. I'll see you next Sunday!" Then fade away as needed. This is good advice. I've opened up...

Re: Do I tell DH I've tried alcohol?
I had MASSIVE WoW hangups for quite a long time. My wife had started distancing herself from the church first, and it totally destroyed me emotionally. Then, after that, I found her secret stash of alcohol. It just further added to my misery and emotional instability. I started sending her articles ...

Church historical issues in other languages?
I recently had a former missionary companion from South America send me a history channel video that was dubbed in Spanish that essentially claimed Lehi's journey was not possible. I've included a link to the English portion of the video below. I don't really want to debate the video, but what I am ...

Re: How feasible is the middle way?
I've been doing what I consider the middle way, in one version or another, for years. Over time I've drifted further and further from being TBM. I'm sure most people that see me at church think I'm just a 'normal' Mormon, like everyone else. I've had the chance to have a few more detailed / intimate...

Re: Big Changes?
Can the "different" feeling be attributed to Nelson's mental capacities vs. Monson's incapacities? Ten years with Monson at the helm could accurately be described as watching paint dry. Now with Nelson, we are watching the church repaint the same wall with a fresh coat of the same color of beige. M...

Re: Big Changes?
I think it is an interesting commentary on Mormonism when the fact that a guy is born in Calif . instead of Ut is noteworthy. He may be of Chinese ancestry but he is church broke through and through . He went to BYU and is married to a Lilly white girl from Ut whose father just happened to be a GA....

Re: We can't criticize everything
The aggregation of all men into a single priesthood quorum makes sense. Doctrinally, I don't know how that works out. It seems to have some potential implications to church hierarchy and scripture that may be problematic. In some areas where the church is smaller, I think this change could be quite...

Re: We can't criticize everything
I didn't see / hear any of conference but from the discussion, it appears that Nelson led meeting management much better. Some of the sessions, notably when he introduced changes, were even thematic and organized from speaker to speaker. That's an improvement over anything I've seen in a long time....

Re: Big Changes?
Really, in my mind, there were four big things that make this conference historic. 1) Two new apostles were called. Neither apostle was born in Utah. One is from Brazil and one is Asian-American. This adds needed diversity to the church's governing group. 2) There is consolidation of the High Priest...

Re: We can't criticize everything
I attended priesthood session last night and was pleased with how that meeting was used by Nelson. It was very different than previous meetings. I was also quite surprised with the changes. It takes balls to demote your most faithful group of supporters. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one on th...
