Re: Jane Doe 1 Vs. LDS Church Berkley Springs, WV
If you listen to the Mormon Stories interview of therapist Natasha Helfer Parker she states that one of the reasons she won't pay tithing is the LDS church’s tendency to silence and pay off rape victims to keep them quiet and to avoid law suits. I think she would like to say more but she would proba...

Re: DNA arguments
This quote is originally from the Wentworth Letter. You can find it in the July 2002 Ensign on LDS.org: https://www.lds.org/ensign/2002/07/the-wentworth-letter?lang=eng In this important and interesting book the history of ancient America is unfolded, from its first settlement by a colony that came ...

Re: DNA arguments
This is what started me down the rabbit hole. I was reading the Salt Lake Tribune online at work when I stumbled upon an article on DNA and the Book of Mormon. It piqued my interest and I started reading and googling. Google led me to a youtube video about the Book of Abraham. I found really bad apo...

Re: Apostolic Coup d'-etat
I just noticed in the footnotes of the Wikipedia article on John Willard Young it refers to a Dialog Article from Winter of 2002 by Todd Compton titled "John Willard Young, Brigham Young, and the Development of Presidential Succession in the LDS Church". I have not read the whole thing yet but it lo...

Re: Apostolic Coup d'-etat
I really enjoyed this podcast. I do have one question. According to the podcast Brigham Young changed the rules of presidential succession to be the apostle who was continuously in the quorum of the 12 for the longest. From what I have read about John Willard Young (son of Brigham Young) it says tha...

Re: Membership in Japan
The number of wards and branches in Japan has dropped from 317 to 265 since 1999. That is a loss of 52 congregations. I don't see this trend changing any time soon. There has not been a single year in that span where the number of congregations increased. I was on my mission there about 30 years ago...

LDS unit growth 1st half 2017
I found some stats on the first half of 2017 that I thought were interesting. I found them here: http://ldschurchgrowth.blogspot.com/ numbers came from comments here: https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=2786908254617003646&postID=6812310469439361546&bpli=1 Worldwide: +99 units (+165 wards and -...

Re: Gospel Doctrine topic this Week
I asked an apologist friend of mine about how this works. Suppose a person prays about the BoM and gets a positive answer, but decides that one of the FLDS groups is where God is leading him. All of the FLDS factions acknowledge the prophetic role of Joseph Smith, the divinity of the Book of Mormon...

Re: Elder Rasband sucks up to President Eyring on Facebook
While on my mission in a VERY poor Eastern European country we ran free English classes. The classes were open to anyone, we did not preach AT ALL, and the local people were so appreciative. One of my most special memories from my mission came from English classes when at the end of a session the e...

Re: What's up with BYU?
When I was at BYU in the early 80s there was someone on my floor at Deseret Towers that wrote enough bad checks that the police were after him. He skipped town and was hiding out in Texas until one of his close friends turned him in. I'm didn't hear what happened to him after that.

Re: Why don't Hernia/Prostate/Pelvic/Breast exams break the Law of Chastity?
When I was at the MTC the doctor there was a very attractive 30-ish woman. Another missionary told me he had to see her for an unnamed issue that required dropping his Gs around his ankles. He claimed that in the process of the examination he became aroused, and that this was remedied with a painfu...

Mind Reading
Recently I watched an interview with a woman who escaped from North Korea. One thing that stood out to me is when she said she actually believed that Kim Jong-un could read her mind. I thought that sounded crazy. But then remembered that in the church we believed that our Priesthood leaders had the ...

Re: Thought Terminating Cliche
Anti-mormon lies.
He must have an axe to grind.
We will find out the answers to that in the next life.
The church is true.
He was speaking as a man.
That is not official doctrine.
I feel the spirit of contention.

Brigham Young seemed to think the Moroni visit was the first vision. But FAIR explains this by letting us know that back then people referred to Jesus as an Angel...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #10 (percent)
I look back over the last several decades where I have had a full time job and paid tithing. If I add up all of the tithing I have paid over that time it is quite a large amount. I feel like I am good calling myself a full tithe payer even if I don't pay another dime.

Re: Temple recommend barcode
Several years ago I went to the temple with my wife. It was the first time I had gone since renewing my recommend. They scanned it and there was a problem. They had me wait while they contacted my bishop. They eventually let me in but evidently the stake clerk had not activated my recommend properly.

Re: Does Satan tempt the General Authorities?
Somewhat off topic: The Great Stan never had the veil of forgetfulness that we all received at birth. The GAs were all pre-ordained & anointed to be Nobel and Great Ones during the pre-existence, all in full view of The Great Stan. The Great Stan controls the waters. Why didn't The Great Stan drown...
