Re: How do atheists find their car keys?

Well, prayer or no prayer involved, the truth is that I always find my keys in the last spot I look in...and that’s a fact.

Re: Your Random LDS Questions

Here is random question. If Jesus could come down and atone for all persons, past present and future with one act, why can’t he (or someone already on earth like RMN) just be baptized, for and in behalf of, all those who are dead, and be done with it in one shot? Seems like it could work for the oth...

Re: Joel Osteen and others

I’ve listened to Joel several times on the radio. I enjoy many of his sermons, but I have a hard time watching him on the TV as it looks very fake and disingenuous. Also, I don’t like that he lives a rock star life. However, he does spread a positive outlook on life and hope for something better, be...

Re: Areas where science has forced the church to change their story/approach/whatever?

Does Joesph Fielding Smith’s quote that man would never go to the moon count? “We will never get a man into space. This earth is man's sphere and it was never intended that he should get away from it. The moon is a superior planet to the earth and it was never intended that man should go there. You ...

Re: We pray upstairs

It's funny how long ago Mormons assume that was. I have to wonder, how different were mild barley drinks - really? How different was the whiskey ol' Brigham was producing than a modern whiskey? I wish I could find some of the whiskey that brother Brigham distilled to compare it to our modern versio...

What if everyone started changing their name?

NASCAR Announces Name Change CHARLOTTE, NC – America’s racing fans learned Thursday that NASCAR will be “no more” from NASCAR president Bill France Jr., when he announced that going forward the organization would only be using its official name, even the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing...

Re: General Conference Predictions

I’ve heard the 2 hour church rumor quite a bit, even that it has been in trial version in a couple places outside the USA. Part of the rumor is that in some countries people are able to take a break from their jobs to attend church for up to 2 hours and this will help them be able to attend more oft...

Thanks for the posts in this thread. Much enjoyed, and so I offer this one.

We believe that a magical incantation said over any refreshments at a gathering of saints can actually cause the cookies and punch to “nourish and strengthen our bodies”.

Re: Soundtrack of the NOM

Paul Simon’s “Flowers Never Bend With the Rainfall” has been helpful to me on several occasions. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd-DvSTBq1o I especially like these two parts of the song: “I am blinded by the light Of God and truth and right And I wander in the night without direction. So I'll continu...

Re: Origins of Mormon Doctrine

For those looking for another good source for discovering the similarities between Smith’s ideas and ideas and influences occurring around him, I discovered Rick Grunder’s work “Mormon Parallels” to be fascinating in many regards. I think it’s still possible to get copies. I’ve heard recently that t...

Re: Advice please?

In my professional work life, I won’t agree to any meeting invitations that do not come with either an agenda from the meeting organizer or a clearly stated purpose for why the meeting needs to occur (i.e. is there an answer/information needed from me, objective to achieve, desired action, etc.). I ...

Re: What am I supposed to say when they are manipulating my children right in front of me?

I have always viewed "extra curricular activities" like activity days, scouts, and any YM/YW activities during the week as purely optional. With that in mind, maybe saying something like, "the activities of the church are there to support me as a parent as I think best for raising my children; it's...

Re: Lightning Survey: Before the 2014 Plural Marriage Essay, did you know that Joseph Smith practiced it HIMSELF?

Yes. As a avid reader, I discovered it long ago and was always disappointed that it seemed "hidden" and not really talked about like Brigham Young's practice of it was.

Re: Asked to pray in church

I once heard the apocryphal story that Senator/Apostle Reed Smoot was asked to offer the opening prayer at a session of congress to which he retorted, "I'd rather the Lord not know I was here." Sometimes, you know when they ask for a volunteer to say the prayer in Sunday School and you look down at ...
