Re: Don't believe in the prosperity gospel? What if we give you COOKIES

Ouch. That gesture is pretty tone deaf and the person likely knew it which is why they chose to make it anonymous. During my transition we had friends where both the husband and the wife had parents that had served as mission presidents. We got to know the parents a bit and it surprised me to hear t...

Re: SLC Trib: "McKenna Denson, LDS Church agree to drop lawsuit"

Look at her screwed up life. There is your witness of what Joseph Bishop did to her. Thanks for your insights Alas, always good to see things from a different perspective. I think your quote above exhibits the crux of my point. Denson's screwed up life is evidence that something terrible happened t...

Re: Selective following the prophets

It has been fascinating and frustrating watching people and their actions during and prior to Covid. Prophet: be proud to be Mormon. Make I’m a Mormon videos. TBM: I’ll do whatever you ask prophet. Prophet: don’t use Mormon anymore. It’s of the devil. TBM: OK. No more Mormon Prophet: do home study ...

It sure seemed like there was some smoke there, but McKenna Denson had some personal issues that destroyed her credibility. It would have been nice to see it play out a bit more.

Re: Kwaku, FAIRMomon, and terminating Dehlin

I got a response to my question to FAIR about how they will respond to this stuff. The guy who answered me had no idea what I was talking about and wondered what about these fine video presentations would inspire me to make up such a vulgar acronym as T.I.T.S. So I apologized for assuming that FAIR...

Re: The big lie

Holland would say that it is true that God can cure all problems, but that doesn't mean that he will cure all problems. Jfro's point is spot on about if God can cure COVID, why would he ignore two world wide fasts led by his prophet? Holland regularly hits on the theme of giving your life means it m...

Re: Holding in-person church in spite of COVID restrictions here in the midwest...

Signs were posted at the entrance stating that masks were mandatory, but several people took them off to sing because idiocy. They were singing!?! That's like the really obvious spread method! Wow. Hang in there græy. The things that seem to be important to those people don't square with what I con...

Surprised and not surprised. Surprised because Salt Lake has been cautious on this. Not surprised because Salt Lake ceded control to local area leaders, and you are going to get all types with local area leaders.

Re: Does Russell Nelson have the guts?

The only thing I would ever expect a church leader to say is what has been said before: Support your elected government leaders, we believe in honoring and sustaining the law, render unto Ceaser what is Caesars. When you step back and look at the "big changes" RMN has made, you realize how inconsequ...

Re: Finally, a prophetic message that will fix everything!

I'm guessing that it will be another hunger strike because it's on a Friday. If he announces Friday, it is easy for the members to prep for the hunger strike and start Saturday night. The timing is also good because there have been recent announcements of effective vaccines being found. No doubt he ...

Re: An Old White Man Discusses Racism

I'm purposely not discussing the tying of Trump to racists because I don't believe it's an appropriate topic for this board. For whatever reason, some feel the need to include their political views in everything and it isn't helpful to this board. Was Oaks talking to "Trump racists"? Yes. Was he tal...

Re: Test the Spirits

I haven't listened to the talk (and don't plan to), but I made a connection worth sharing. Over conference weekend I wondered why the church feels the need to make conference so long (10 hours over 2 days) and have conference twice a year. Then it hit me: the church wants to use the Texas Sharpshoot...

I hadn't seen that (I didn't watch much of conference), but am surprised he would phrase it that way. The problem with his statement is that bitter fruit is always bitter, it can never turn sweet. A child born out of wedlock may have some challenges (e.g. support from only one parent), but those cha...

Re: Marital stress

Lots of great advice here. I'm far from being at the end of this road, but I've learned a little bit from my journey. Here are a few thoughts: 1) Be the best husband and father you can be. I've found this involves a lot of self-sacrifice on my part. I firmly believe that making the decision to the b...

That is sad, advocate. How old are the kids? Would she be open to lessons other than just correlated church material. Haven't set foot in the church since March and am loving it. At home church makes the mormon church much more bearable. DW asks that we do a weekly church service. We all dress up, do the sacrament, then DW gives the come follow me lesson. For the most part the kids are bored during the lesson, but ...

Re: SLC will contact your nonmember spouse

This is just wrong. I would find a way to robocall the church department doing this band get back at them. The church didn't violate any laws, so their action was not illegal. If SIL wants her number removed from their calling list, she needs to ask them. I wouldn't go so far to say the church's ca...
