Re: A Reasonable God?
I remember doing a short video a few years ago about how the God of the OT (and Mormonism) is supposed to be our Heavenly Father that loves each and every one of us and that we're not accountable for the sins of our fathers, etc... Yet that same God drowned the entire planet including women, childre...

Re: A Reasonable God?
God's ways are not our ways. It is your fault for expecting God to act a certain way. I resonate with this so much and when you really think about how the God of Mormonism acts (or of the OT for sure), it really becomes absurd to think this is a kind and loving God... but the moment you bring that u...

Re: Slowly fading away? The future of NOM?
FWIW I hope this place stays for a long time - when I was really getting into all of this stuff I found exmo Reddit and while it might have a place, it's (to me) not the healthiest place to stay. My SIL turned me to here and it was just so helpful between being a very welcome group and just being a ...

Re: FAIR's how-to-study guide
My favorite is when they keep yelling "None of these accusations are new, and they all have a plausible answer." even though most people encountering LFMY or CES Letter have not heard of the problems before. But yeah from an outside perspective this is just absolute nonsense. I'm also surprised they...

Re: Supreme court ruling about providing services for LGBTQ+
Does this mean a business can turn away Christians if they don't agree with their message, and not have it labeled persecution? "No soup for you, Jesus boy!" Apparently... so if you lived in Utah and someone wanted a cake to celebrate their child "choosing" to get baptized you could tell them no. O...

2 is a late forged addition to Luke. It's a fake. That revealed scripture doubles down on it only proves the falseness of three Mormon claim. This is new info to me. Can you share more? There's a new Bart Ehrman podcast about Luke and it addresses this that just came out recently: https://www.youtu...

Re: So Many podcasts, so little time.
One other podcast I want to throw out there is the Sunstone History Podcast - it's still going and I'm way behind on it, but they have some amazing ones covering the early church and they're doing it in a way that is not angry or mocking or anything like that. It's Lindsay Hansen Park and Bryan Buch...

Re: Bible banned from schools in Davis County, Utah
The funniest part to me is that people don't see this coming when making these rules on removing books they deem inappropriate. Allan Mount does TikTok videos going over Bible stories (at least he used to - I assume he still does) and when you listen to them they're absolutely horrific in every way ...

Re: So Many podcasts, so little time.
I do make a point to listen to every LDS Discussions podcast. They have been creeping up there in length, but they keep me interested. Partially it is to support one of our own, but they are actually very interesting podcasts on their own. Yeah... that is definitely something that has happened as i...

Re: So Many podcasts, so little time.
I doubt that there are many folks in that 65-85 age group that are watching these but the effect on 15-45 year olds must be devastating for the church. Leadership must be turning themselves inside out wondering how to stop the bleeding. Somehow I don't feel sorry for them.... I'm really amazed at t...

Re: So Many podcasts, so little time.
I don't listen to too many podcasts anymore, but I definitely pick and choose them based on what grabs my attention. Do you gravitate more to personal stories, history, current events, etc? I highly recommend the Mormonism Live weekly podcast because they're usually well done and you can pick and ch...

Re: 60 Minutes this week: LDS & SEC
But this is exactly what needs to happen in this country! The bogus legalized form of pyramid ponzi non-taxable schemes (religions) need to end IMO. It's a big drain on society and a huge waist of resources just to give a few rich white guys more money and assets than they could ever use in their l...

Re: 60 Minutes this week: LDS & SEC
Something that I do not understand from the 60 Minutes interview was with the Former IRS, Tax Law guy…he said the IRS will likely not do anything to the church for using its non-prophet EPA fund to bail out the Insurance company…he said there were too many political risks…what does that mean? How w...

What would've been fantastic would've been having David Nielsen there to help with follow-up questions because this answer sounded particularly false to me: "Christopher Waddell: In any given month you may have an average of nine transfers going from Ensign Peak back to the church to fund all church...

Re: New interest in the Kinderhook Plates?
Excellent Point. It seems likely that Joseph Smith had a more or less tenuous connection with reality. It seems like at times he even fooled himself. What's kind of funny is that there is an apologetic here that could be helpful in that Joseph Smith believed that the Egyptian alphabet he translated...

Re: New interest in the Kinderhook Plates?
The other reason the Kinderhook Plates matter is because it shows that Joseph Smith both believed in and was behind the Book of Abraham GAEL since we know he went to it when doing the "partial translation" of the Kinderhook Plates. I'm not sure why apologists seem to be going all in on the Book of A...

Re: 1m settlements are not a pattern changer for TSCC
From what I understand the 1m settlement was made *before* the 2.3b lawsuit - so the church itself settled out of the lawsuit and then the big judgment came down which will never be paid anyway (since the people dont have the money).
Smart settlement by Jesus Christ right there.

Re: Surrendering your moral compass to authority figures
I think Nemo felt like he was being too critical there, but it's a point that needed to be made about how the church picks and chooses when to stick to the moral argument and when they stick with their own interests and it's really striking when you see how that lines up.
