Re: Mormon things that just pop into your head

Bad church film lines have been coming to me lately:

"Mahanna you ugly!"

"Stonecutter" "Same as the next man?" "Much better Sir!"

"Papanwa!"

"You must do what truth requires!"

Re: A one-liner that captures your disaffection

From that cheesy church film "the testaments" when spray tanned papanwa tells his artist son during Jacob's polynesian thug's trial for the murder of the prophet:

"You must do what truth requires!"

Re: Anti-Tithing Anecdote

Everyone must find a solution that fits their situation but one thing that must happen is less money going to a $124B real estate corporation and more going into your own bank account or mutual fund. I had to compromise with my wife who has no income and so I allow her to pay a little from my income...

Gov Herbert just said no church until fall. He also said we have mountains to replace church buildings. I can dig that herbie!

Re: How do we bridge the epistemological divide of “I know”?

I like using the other mormon sects as an example of our epistemological formula leading to different conclusions. For example, the FLDS etc use the same basic formula in proving their prophet to be the true one. They read the same book of mormon, and feel the same spiritual feelings and that leads ...

Re: How do we bridge the epistemological divide of “I know”?

A discussion of Paul H Dunn regarding epistemology. If the spirit is reliable why did so many get the feels from his BS stories? (The TBM reasoning will be that the principles were true even if the stories were false).

Yep if you happen to watch Hell on Wheels on Netflix, Olive Oatman is the influence for one of the main characters with her famous indian tattooed face. Scene where Brigham tries to get Eva (Olive Oatman) back into the fold (note some of the historical inaccuracy and liberties taken with the Oatman ...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

I guess enough of us humans have been able to #StayHome to stop the exponential spread, or there's something else afoot slowing things down. Either way, I think it's a good outcome. The US is a country of rugged individualists. Perhaps that is why we top the number of cases by such a wide margin. W...

I will say that John Hamer's Toronto CoC branch has had great success with their broadcasts on facebook live but the viewership is much smaller in scale. We may be relatively small in scale, but we do have very interesting content — which I haven't always found to be true in a Stake Conference. We'...

Beehive clothing making masks

Looks like they will be distracted from making garments while they ramp up production of medical masks and gowns. That seems like a much more practical use of production capacity. https://www.ksl.com/article/46741651/latter-day-saints-announce-humanitarian-efforts-in-57-countries-to-battle-coronavirus

Re: Articles of Faith

Yes there are several versions and iterations. The first principles and ordinances article of faith originated with Campbellite minister Walter Scott's "plan of salvation" and found its way to Smith's wentworth letter via fellow reformed baptist Parley P Pratt aka "The apostle Paul of Mormonism" who...

So much for praying in closets in secret and not doing alms before men. Reminds me of a childhood friend who I invited on a hike and it turned out he was fasting but still went anyway without telling me until I offered him water. That's true suffering for the cause.
