Re: Is NOM going the direction of some other online groups?

I think reddit (both /mormon/ and /exmormon/ has filled in where NOM once stood. Also the privite facebook groups are big now. I'm on several of them, and they also scratch the itch that NOM once did

Somebody on reddit remmebers Eldfer Ballard coming to his mission and teaching them to commit investigators to baptism on the first discussion. So he even taught it, but has no idea where it came from!

Re: I think I want to be cremated...

Interesting fact: The reason there is a one-year wait from time of death to when temple work can be done? Because members would do temple work the day after a non-member family member dies, and then bury said family member in temple clothes! Then the big 15 heard about this, than implemented the one...

Dead To Me (Netflix)

Not as funny as "After Life" but quirky, with some real plot twists that keep you hooked.

Re: Next "Big Thing"

Recently s female relative of mine remarried after a death of her husband. She had been sealed to her first husband, but wanted to be sealed to her current (living husband). Currently, the only way to do that is if she gets the sealing to her first husband cancelled. I think what Brent is saying is ...

My friend is a temple worker in the Idaho Falls temple and told me the following. Last weekend, Bednar was visiting the Temple President, and he said that there was “lots of big changes coming to the temple” The Temple President pressed him, but he wouldn’t reveal anything. Then Monday the sealing c...

If God really wanted people to live longer back in JS's time, he would have just told them to boil their water!

How does SLC compair to other US cities? That is the telling statistic. Are mormons just the same/better/worse as other Americans?

Re: Unintended consequences of civil marriage announcement

Another unintended consequence will be all the people registering with their local state’s laws so they can perform the wedding of a friend. In California it just takes about an hour at the County Clerk’s office, and $75, and you are deputized to perform a single wedding on the day chosen. I’ve done...

Re: Anyone a former bishop or stake pres?

I think the only time the SCMC ever send anything to a Bishop if it is a current issue that has reached public knowledge, like a person in the newspaper teaching false doctrine. Any sins confessed to a bishop are NEVER written down unless they reach the level of needed disciplinary action, and then ...

Latest Netflix (Atypical, Life After)

I just finished two great shows on Netflix. Life After. A depressingly funny show with Ricky Gervais. After Life follows Tony, whose life is upended after his wife dies from breast cancer. He contemplates suicide, but instead decides to live long enough to punish the world for his wife's death by sa...

Re: Mormon St. Peters/Vatican renewal - plans pending

I remember reading a SF story, maybe by Card, that talked of a post-apocalyptic world, and the Great Salt Lake was great again. They were in a boat, and were diving down and saw the SL Temple completely underwater. Does anybody else remember that book? I believe it was an anthology.

Re: Peer pressure: seminary

With recent studies showing teenagers need more sleep, and their bodies are pre-dispositioned to go to sleep late and wake up late, schools are starting to start later and later. California has a bill pending that would require high schools to start no earlier than 8:30. You might say great, seminar...

Re: Real estate offer

It they don't use the empty building, the state will start charging property taxes since it is not being used as a church. They have 1-3 years (different in every state). I'm sure Utah does NOT have this, but here in California, they sell the old building in a few years to avoid paying the taxes.
