Re: Seer Stone takes dinosaur ride???

To paraphrase Joseph Smith: Meridian magazine is a polished shaft in the hand of the Almighty. Dinosaurs were created to polish stones. Did I make the right connection?

Re: I've decided I'm not going to church anymore as of today... Now what?

The god-shaped hole is different for each of us. Some go to church for the community, some go for the spirit. I was happier just learning the god-shaped hole was not shaped like a church.

Had a good time visiting today. Saw some old faces and some new faces. With my memory, maybe the new faces were old faces. :D Anyway, keep on keeping on.

Re: Meilingkie is divorcing

Meilingkie, I always appreciate your openness, honesty, and intelligence. I experienced a divorce years ago. It was very difficult, and I imagine you are feeling confused, and maybe sad. I found my greatest happiness after the loss, and I wish you hope for the future. You have touched many lives for...

Re: Why I love the essays

The essays a very, very sloowwly being assimilated into the general membership. I wish LDS were more curious and open-minded, but they aren't. :o I appreciate Hagoth's annotated essays. they are very helpful, and I took the liberty of copying them. I hope that's OK. If you want me to send some $, I ...

Re: I'll never get over how hilarious it is that Joseph Smith wrote himself into the scriptures

Did you see that Sister Holland and Sister Watson-Nelson have been reinterpreting prophesies to refer to RMN? The hubris. Yeesh..... Do you have any references on that? I would be really interested in reading them. Sister Holland: "I'd like you to listen to Jehovah's words about ancient Israel and ...

Re: 3 Things I have questions about

I understand your frustration. To be fair, its possible that you would have these same problems in another church, but it is also possible to find another church where you wouldn't have these type of problems.

Re: Meaning of Joseph's death

I'm veering off here, but if the "dispensation of the fullness of times" includes the restoration of all things, shouldn't somebody in this dispensation get translated like Elijah or Alma did? Or John or the three Nephites? I guess it's kind of odd to ask, but, considering that there have been numer...

Re: Patrick Mason Talk

First, he says that we've loaded too much into the Truth Cart. I tend to agree with that on a cultural level--but I definitely think that is not our fault. Joseph's Mormonism is about the search for Truth. Modern Mormonism is about sitting on our laurels because we think we already have the Truth. ...

Re: I'll never get over how hilarious it is that Joseph Smith wrote himself into the scriptures

Yeah, that was one of the things weighing on my shelf before it broke. Especially the lost words from Genesis. Did the scribes miss a page? Was there any mention by latter OT writers who read it before it got deleted? Did God want to test our faith more by revealing these passages through the...

Meaning of Joseph's death

Considering all the ways different prophets/shamen/holy men have exited mortality, Joseph Smith's last few days don't seem to imitate Jesus, Moses, the three Nephites, Elijah, or other prophets. Perhaps his passing could be compared to some prophets_ (John the Baptist, Paul?) What meaning do to you ...

So ministers are the new Mormon Gestapo. Make sure your families are righteous! As I was reading the list it sounded a lot like Scientology auditing! Actually it is called a "Knowledge Report" or KR. https://www.mikerindersblog.org/the-knowledge-report/ The Knowledge Report One of the most abused p...

Re: Clamping Down on Statistical Websites

While I have no desire to join another church, and have very little patience with religion in general, the statistical report of the Seventh Day Adventists is a stark contrast to mormonnewsroom's coverage of 2017 statistics: http://documents.adventistarchives.org/Statistics/ASR/ASR2017.pdf OVER 100...

Re: LDS Church sets date to commemorate 40th anniversary of priesthood revelation

Imagine this announcement about ten, or fifty years from November, 2015. "The LDS Church is making plans to commemorate the policy to restrict the baptisms of the children of Gay Parents. Church spokesperson Wendy Bednar-McConkie explains' "it was 10/50 years ago this month this that the children of...

Re: The Emperors New Clothes

Feeling the Spirit is so vague. I think this is why Joseph Smith built his whole epistemology around it. I think it worked for him in the treasure-digging days, when he couldn't produce real results for his clients/customers. He likely learned it from his family, local preachers, an idiosyncratic in...

I wonder if there might a time of "pruning" the vines in the future. The leaders might say, "Our numbers are going South, so let's just get rid of the deadwood and call it a "New Reformation."
