Re: Fascinating Conversation with my Wife
You have a great family HIPS. I'm happy that your wife is putting you first. My wife still thinks it's all true because once in a while she'll hear a tear jerker story from a TBM so it must be true, right? Although my DW stll believes, lately she'd rather sleep in on second Saturday and even remind ...

Re: It's official: Sam Young is excommunicated
I've wondered if Sam being associated with "anti" sites such as reddit and mormon stories had a play in it. Sure he kept going when the Q15 asked him to cease but the fact that he was soliciting this on exmormon reddit and interviewed by JD had to have pissed the COB off. I really don't see how he c...

Re: Sam Young to be excommunicated from Ziontology on September 9
Sam has always said that he supports the Q15 but it's the policy that he has a problem with. He has been very admirable the whole time. I'm hoping he'll get the same recognition and popularity as did JD after he got ex-d. At least he will have his family supporting him.

Can't believe I mowed the lawn on Sunday!
For 2 weeks in a row I've cut the grass on Sunday. I have a neighbor (great guy) who's pretty tatted and with a wifebeater, he'll mow consistently every Sunday morning. I thought...you know what...I'm gonna join my neighbor and mow my own lawn. Don't know why I'm reporting this to you all but it's t...

Re: The church isn't going to disappear but they are definitely not vibrant and healthy
Glad to hear you're in good company. I can't imagine doing it all alone. This might sound crazy but the only ones I would even care about knowing the truth are mom and dad. Dad's 81, been TBM forever and I think once they get to a certain point, the last thing they want to know is that they've follo...

Re: I told our oldest son
I think this was very good to come out to your son. Sounds like many missionaries experience the suicidal ideations. All that pressure on these young kids (now 18 year old!) cannot be good. Hope your son is doing better. I think it's critical for missionaries that don't serve or that return home ear...

Re: Sacrament Meeting Shooting
As a missionary, I realized we were teaching a druggie when a man busted through the front door, brandished a knife then proceeds to drag the young lady to the back room and gave her a beating. But, we went right on teaching her and baptizing her. I'm thinking there should have been some kind of rul...

Re: Are Mission Presidents feeling the heat?
Missionary success and missionary morale will never improve until TSCC admits that they're just like all the other religions out there. Well, get rid of the weirdness like the temples also but there really is nothing left after that. They will have to revamp once the mish #s drop to about 40K.

Re: Impractical, uncomfortable, and unsightly
It's going on a year since my wife went to church last but she still wears garments faithfully. I figure things could be a lot worse so I don't say anything. I'll never forget RR describing how (a relative?) wears the garment hanging out from shorts like it's a badge of honor. When I heard that stor...

Re: Trite and often pious TBM phrases
The air show was great. As stated, we were there on Sunday...so much fewer people. OP was spoiled and had VIP seating. The ending was pretty lame. They announced that the Thunderbirds would actually perform a little early but apparently they had complications and they ended up flying much later. I w...

Re: This Really Sucks!
So sorry to hear what you'll be going through. I've told my story on here before. I was two weeks from sitting outside the temple of my daughter's wedding. Luckily for me they called it off. Shortly after that she met someone else and a year later they were married up the canyon with an amazing back...

Re: Trite and often pious TBM phrases
Glad to know some fellow NOMers were at the airshow on Sunday. Damn, that was a long wait before the thunderbirds! We decided to leave and had to catch it on the bus ride out. Pious remarks...well let's see. Not really pious but a subtle remark my dad uses really pisses me off. He always includes "h...

Re: Update abt TBM in laws in my ward
So sorry you have to deal with in-laws in your ward. I used the same comment with my dad about the seven differing first vision accounts. And don't forget that JS didn't tell anyone about this for 10 years. Subtle tidbits of info like this gives people enough to chew on and later on might give them ...

Re: Scouting is dead
IT Vet, I have no doubt many parents will have that mindset. Little do they know that the Sons of Helaman award doesn't mean diddly squat to employers unless you live in Provo. People have been putting "eagle scout" on their resume for years and years. It's hard to say how it will affect the control...

Re: Scouting is dead
Old topic...but my thoughts are: young men that are still interested in scouting will probably not want to be busy two back to back nights during the week. In other words, they won't want to attend non-denominational scouts one night and then a LDS young mens meeting the following night. Most kids s...

Thanks rincewind. I'll have to look for that when I go back. I'm sure you learn something every time you're down there. For me, it was check your truck for rattles before taking the 40 mile washboard road. I got passed by a prius and even an outfit that had probably rolled a couple times. They must ...

Re: Coyote Gulch in Escalante
I had an amazing weekend camping in Coyote Gulch. Couldn't ask for a better view rolling out of bed and having front row seat to Jacob Hamblin Arch. I recommend it to those who are adventurous but haven't seen it. So we did go the sneaker route and there were ropes already in place on the final desc...
