Re: Anti-Catholic Litertature Wanted

I want to be Catholic, but my wife wants me to stay Mormon. She wants me to read anti-Catholic literature just like I read anti-Mormon literature a long time ago. So... do you have any recommendations? Or do you have any arguments against Catholicism? Why do you want to be Catholic, and what is it ...

Re: Loyal Christian's hanging onto mormonism

Yeah, I'm one of those. I've been actively attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 8 years as a non-traditional believer. Basically, I've believed generally in Jesus and the Bible, but continued to hold callings and perform priesthood ordinances and etc. 8 years is a long time....

Re: Gods All The Way Down

I'm not defending the Mormon way of defining the relationship between God and man. I'm just curious how you might reconcile this? I'll have to google "fortunate fall." In a sense, I think we are children of God, and I'm aware of the Bible verses that call us children of God. But I think "creations ...

Re: Gods All The Way Down

I'm in the slow process of becoming Catholic, and I now realize that the Mormon concept of becoming Gods is heretical. The whole Adam and Eve story is about the danger of wanting to be like God. Adam and Eve want to become like God. They want to gain His knowledge. That was a bad thing, and God puni...

Re: Another big Joseph Smith blow out?

Yeah, the 200th anniversary of the First Vision is a big deal, I guess. I think the LDS Church leaders feel like they can't let go of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon and the restoring of priesthood keys and etc. Because if they let go of those things, what do they have left? Not enough to keep p...

Re: Have any of you considered Catholicism?

I can see how ceremony and ritual can be very appealing to some people, and it does feel like it has a great deal more gravity than a pimply-faced youn American upstart like Mormonism. And, of course, it does have actual theologians. The biggest problem I have with religion is that it provides a pl...

Re: Have any of you considered Catholicism?

But the celibacy doctrines for priests and nuns is just uncalled for. Especially in light of recent sex scandals. The cover-ups remind me of the Mormons. Yeah, the sex scandals are horrible. But there are a lot of horrible things that go on in other denominations, too. And I think the media has ove...

Have any of you considered Catholicism?

Ever since the Notre Dame cathedral caught on fire, I've been researching Catholicism a lot more. I listen to Catholic radio on my commute to and from work, and I really like it. It seems like they have the smartest Christians around. And they have so much history and they've been caretakers of the ...

Re: My chance to speak on Easter

You could use some of the information and arguments that Lee Strobel propagates. He talks a lot about the validity of the Resurrection. Here's his presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67uj2qvQi_k He has a book called, "The Case for Christ." I've never read it, but I've watched the movie, al...

Re: My chance to speak on Easter

Here you go, a talk on Charity. It's totally NOMed up, but quotes all the right sources. I cobbled it together from various sources for my daughter to give as a lesson in YW, but then adapted it so it could be used in Sacrament Meeting.... http://roadkilldelight.com/NOM/CharityTalk.pdf Hi Hermey! Re: Manti Temple Rumor

The rumor I remember hearing about the Manti Temple was that Moroni dedicated the land for the Manti Temple on his journey from South America to the Hill Cumorah in the early 400's. And that's why the Manti temple architecture is kinda Native-American. One of my missionary companions told me that th...

Re: New and Confused (so long its not true, one little woman...)

I am currently still active and I don't want to leave the community because I've made some valuable friendships and have good memories of the church, but after this weeks conference, I don't know if that will be possible. Yes, it is possible. I'm an active Mormon. I go every Sunday, teach Primary, ...

Re: Amost forgot. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mormon Jesus!

Ha! I forgot! I was taught when I was a kid, in early morning seminary, that April 6th was the true birthday of Christ. Then, when I was still a TBM, and I was a recently returned missionary, I think, I found this funny website called "Holy Fetch," which is kind of like a Mormon Snopes. Holy Fetch h...
