Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #14 (the only one focused on the past vs present)
Nope. Firstly I don't believe in sin, not in the way the church understands it, and secondly I don't believe that it would require 'priesthood leader' resolution. And for that matter I am fed up with the obsession with sin and repentance. Ah, but without that obsession they can't trap you in a cycle...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #13 - Garments
I don't wear them (nor do I feel beholden to the temple covenants) , though there goes the church assuming covenants were made which weren't, and my wife is TBM and she dealt with my garments when I stopped wearing them. I assume she either has then stashed somewhere hoping I'll use them again some ...

Nope, but honestly I never really kept it prior when you consider eating meat sparingly and all that jazz. You know, everything in that gets ignored. You'd think D&C 89 said in its entirety:
"By commandment; abstain from alcohol, tobacco, coffee, and tea. Amen. "

Minor updates I don't like IPA's. Ale's are good, and Lager's are 2nd place. Stout's are OK, but still a bit strong for me to properly enjoy it. That's about the extent of my knowledge of fermented barley. It's a shame that the Beer 101 thread was on the old board and not this one. There was a lot ...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #8
Ditto. I also don't think that 8 year olds can enter into eternally binding covenants. And promises made in the temple aren't exactly made with full and complete information nor in an environment where you really have the opportunity to consider and weigh your commitment. There's enough time for ev...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #9 (Hypocrisy at its best)
Yes, unless we're taking it as some hyper binary state where the smallest deflection or white lie means one isn't honest. For instance, as part of my spiel at work I often respond that I'm doing good. I say this even if I don't actually think my day is good, simply because it's part of the polite fi...

Re: It's that time of the every-other-year again
Once I no longer believed I don't think I could have maintained a temple recommend without feeling like I was sacrificing my integrity. I'm not trying to attack those who nuance their way through a temple recommend interview (particularly if the interviewers are helping), but for me a request like t...

Re: What am I supposed to say when they are manipulating my children right in front of me?
BIL did it to me last summer. Pat on the neck and shoulder. The two handed handshake with the free hand on the upper arm is also a classic. A picture for those having a problem picturing it from my short description. It's quite subtle as it's something that genuinely happens as part of handshakes a...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #8
#8 Do you strive to keep the covenants you have made, to attend your sacrament and other meetings, and to keep your life in harmony with the laws and commandments of the gospel? I do not feel beholden to promises made to someone I no longer believe exists. I could be cheeky and talk about the Churc...

Re: If you don't believe in a God who intervenes in our lives, how do you make peace with big life decisions and changes
Worry doesn't change things. Oh, it can motivate one to do things that can change things, but as long as it remains worry without action it's mostly pointless. Some things we just can't change no matter how hard we might wish we could, stewing in what ifs, or what could have been just isn't fruitful...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #7 (NOM)
Taken at face value, and due to how freaking vague the question is, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who can answer "no". Sure, if you explain to the Bishop you mean that you pay taxes to government and government engages in practices contrary to church teachings, or that your degree aff...

Re: What am I supposed to say when they are manipulating my children right in front of me?
Concerning your children, a fairly neutral approach is - "My children are minors. If you wish to invite them somewhere you need to discussed it with me, not them." As far as the garment check, "That is unwanted physical contact. Do not do it again." or if you want to be a little more aggressive, "My...

Yes. I don't take the lead in having family home evening, or family scripture study, or family prayer. I don't do many of the checklist of things that a good Mormon husband or son is supposed to do.

Re: Paris Temple much more influencial than Palace of Versailles
Good grief! How incredibly arrogant and condescending to a nation that, I assume, agreed to allow that building to be constructed. It's not just arrogant and condescending it's downright delusional. The chateau and gardens of Versailles have over 7 million visitors each year*. Pretty impressive for...

Re: Cash register installed during open house?
I don't get the temple. Never did. Heaven knows I tried, but getting close to god there never seemed like an option. So sterile and sanitzed. I prefer a mountain instead. Seems to me the scriptures are much more replete with men getting visions in the wild than in a building. I 'got' the temple for...

Our rs lesson was about temple marriage and how being married in the temple makes it stronger because you are ostensibly more likely to fight harder for a marriage for eternity. Don't know about you but as an emerging apostate I find myself fighting harder for my marriage than ever before. I get ti...

Re: Paid clergy
Why can't we pay professional speakers to do it? We need paid clergy! It would make sacrament meeting better. Honestly I think why the church needs paid clergy is so you have trained people acting as counselors rather than Randy McPharmacist doling out marital or post-rape counseling. This is assum...
