Re: "These issues have all been debunked"

I've certainly noticed the same trend. Perhaps it as simple as people have different interests or goals in life. An example that comes to mind, we've cut the cable chord and consume our digital entertainment through streaming services like Netflix. This has changed our viewing habits as my wife now...

Re: "These issues have all been debunked"

Why are members afraid to discuss the issues? This continues to be one of my biggest shelf items since my my ‘faith awakening’ began 6 months ago. At the beginning I would come to my father with questions, but it was difficult to have meaningful discussions as he was was unaware/skeptical of the fa...

Re: I have been coming out lately and it feels great

(on the old board) Where we used to live? I'm happy that you are able to come out, and that it is relieving instead of stressful! I dream of that day, but I don't think my relationship with my wife is ready for that yet. I play church ball with some less active guys in my ward and I always want to ...

Re: What is WIDCYB?

WIDCYB is a really difficult habit to transcend. I would like to think that I have made progress in this arena, but the moment I think I might be good at examining my own bias, I have to admit that I might just be fooling myself. For this reason I still keep FairMormon.org in my podcast queue. They...

I would pitch in. This was sort of my diary of a faith crisis and I am sure my memory has faded. I wold live to see some of my old posts and so much of the other great content there.
Me too. I'll pitch in $50. Help me Thayne, you're my only hope.

Re: Fast offering is a scam

Keep in mind that fast offerings may be used to help the poor - but they are also used to either lure the poor into the Church or keep them there. It is not help that is given without an agenda. Don't pay fast offerings - instead contribute to one of the many charities that help the needy without t...

Inoculation Works

Just saw an article about a study on using a "mental vaccine" to protect against fake news. The test consisted of giving groups different information about climate change and seeing how their view changed. By showing a pie chart of the percentage of climate scientists who conclude human-caused clima...

Re: Where is god anyway?

In one of the Mormon Expression episodes, John Larsen compared a faith crisis to dropping a large glass ball. It breaks into millions of little pieces and part of the recovery is picking up each little piece, reviewing it, reconsidering your beliefs about it, and making a decision about whether to ...

Re: "Real or Fake motives"

Today we happened to go to SM...our first time in over a year.. only to find out it was Ward Conference. Ugh! In his concluding remarks the SP told the members they needed to be actively engaged in rescuing lost sheep (less-actives) and bringing them back into the fold. "Whether your motives are RE...

"Hasten the Work" was printed in large font on our sacrament meeting program yesterday. Alive and well in my stake.

No Good Reason

My ward was blessed with talks from the missionaries in sacrament meeting yesterday. One of them shared the miracle of his birth and how that got his wayward parents to come back to church. His closing statement was that "there is no good reason to give up on someone". What an awful statement. I hop...

Re: Reevaluating Your Marriage

Man, this post is relevant for me right now. Thanks for the thread Goodboy. My wife and I are dealing with this now. We are finally getting to the point where we can have discussions without having an emotional blowout. My wife has made it clear that if she had a time machine she would go back and n...

Re: Apocalypticists - Stop the Madness

Yes. During the YSA worldwide devotional this month Elder Nelson said: A True Millennial is a man or woman whom God trusted enough to send to earth during the most compelling dispensation in the history of this world. A True Millennial is a man or woman who lives now to help prepare the people of t...

I don't know a good way to come out to your spouse. I did it horribly, my wife found out in an email to an exmo ex-girlfriend that she saw on my ipad (I was and am completely faithful to my wife, I reached out to this exmo ex-girlfriend because she was the only person I knew well who had left the ch...

In a strongly related note, has anyone heard any local leaders or general authorities use the term, "Hastening the Work" recently? It was rolled out as the next big phase of time before Jesus returns. This was really big when the mission age limit was lowered and it showed up as a common theme with...

Welcome JENuWIN! Sorry to hear about all the stress the Christmas party brought, sometimes leaders just don't realize or don't care about the strain they put on the members. This is a great place to vent and get feedback. I look forward to your posts!

Re: GA Stipend is modest compared to executive compensation

I'm getting tired of two comparisons: 1. Comparing them to a small priest or pastor 2. Comparing them to an executive The best comparison I have seen so far is to other large church leaders. I took my own bishop who earns roughly $112,000 a year, receives another $43,000 in medical, dental, and pen...
