Re: What Does It Mean to be Worthy

Freefallin, your post really made my heart ache. I have struggled with a feeling of brokenness or unworthiness for as long as I can remember. I was drawn to the church and converted as a young adult because the initial message was of unconditional love and worth -- just because I was a child of God....

Re: How and when did the word "even" start a declaration for Church Leaders?

For any other language geeks out there, this is a short discussion of why/how "even" is used in the KJV of the Bible: https://www.waywordradio.org/discussion/topics/the-word-even-in-the-king-james-bible/ I agree that it gets used in Conference talks and leadership utterances to artificially add weig...

Re: RIP Stephen E. Robinson

Robinson's Parable of the Bicycle and his book Believing Christ was an important part of giving me hope and keeping me going in the church long after the glow of my conversion had worn off. When my wonderful, loving and conscientious TBM son gets down on himself, I often quote Robinson to him, or re...

Re: another modesty post -- apologies in advance

There is a balancing act in dressing for one’s self and understanding that what one wears does send a message – I think in our excitement to dislike so much about the church the truth of that is often lost. I do not know how one helps a youth understand that. Sometimes I notice there are plenty of ...

Re: another modesty post -- apologies in advance

One of the weird dynamics (or I don't know, maybe not so unusual) is that DH gets really wound up about things like this, and then I feel like the sky is caving in, or the apocalypse is imminent or something. (I learned recently that this is called low distress tolerance.) Anyway, it's so helpful to...

another modesty post -- apologies in advance

I'm sick of the topic, I really am. On the other hand, I have a 17-year-old daughter and we are in the thick of it. And I don't have all the answers: in truth I find myself pretty conflicted. DH decided about a year ago that without me supporting him he couldn't police DD's clothing anymore. Consequ...

Re: What are you drinking right now?

I've been indulging in a Tom Collins a couple of nights a week. Gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and club soda over crushed ice; it's kind of a sparkling lemonade with gin and it's delicious!

I'm excited, I'm on my last bag of stockpiled pre-ground coffee. Once this is gone I'm gonna get myself a hand grinder and step up to grinding my own bean fresh. If I stick with it I'm eyeing French Presses to replace my Mr. Coffee when the time comes.
I love my French-pressed Kona coffee!

Re: Church historical issues in other languages?

I have heard that Hans Mattson, former Area Seventy, just published a book in Swedish that is causing a bit of a stir over there. Apparently it deals extensively with his learning of all the church's problems, including the historical issues, and his subsequent disaffection.

Re: Everything Happens for a Reason

After my son died, I came across this article, https://whatsyourgrief.com/shattered-assumptions/ , which talks about the same issue you're describing, from a slightly different angle. The author describes how one of the most painful parts of a tragedy, aside from the loss itself, is that it shatters...

Just a reminder (and to refresh the post): when I said next Friday I was referring to the NEXT next Friday, March 30.
I would expect that yesterday's leak is going to draw a lot of additional attention to this.

Re: No more resignations??

I never understood the need to resign. It’s not like you are getting a refund or something. They church is not paying you so you have no obligation to it. No need for two weeks notice. If you just stop going are you not essentially resigning? Does putting it in writing make a difference somehow? If...

Re: Why I told my kids

It sounds lovely. I attended a very small wedding a couple of summers ago in a mountain canyon by the side of a stream. The bride's brother performed the marriage and the couple exchanged votes they'd written themselves. No temple sealing has anything on the intimacy and beauty of that wedding. I'm ...
