Re: New GRAMA Request to BYUPD

Make sure you include a copy of the applicable rulings with your request, just so there is no question that you mean business.

Re: Voted off the island

If nothing else, think of it this way... You now have a free weekend (day, week, whatever it was planned for) for you, the kids an hopefully your spouse. Go do something fun that you want to do. I always found family reunions annoying and pointless. If I got told not to come, I would be celebrating.

Re: The Big Bang: Cosmological Discussion with My Parents

My dad thinks genesis 1 describes the 'creation' of the solar system. His theory solves problematic issues like preexisting stars and the time it takes for their light to reach earth. I used to try to reconcile science and religion, but it takes too much effort. I too am fascinated by cosmology and...

Re: RFM Wins on Appeal Before Utah Records Committee!

One question here.

Other than being required to release properly redacted copies of the materiel in question, will there be any other repercussions for the BYUPD for not following state law?

Re: Depression Destroyed My Academic Career

My wife went though something similar last year. She has been adjudicating foff and on for several years. She has always gotten good evals. In Spring of 2017, her boss recommended that she put in for a full time, tenure track position that was opening up. Her boss make it out like she would be very ...

Re: Not Bothering to Correct Misinformation About the Church

I say I was raised Mormon and most folks can nuance out I'm not anymore. Bingo. I've used these four words several times in the past few years and it works great. Seems to convey a lot of information without bogging down conversation. For me, when people ask my about my religion, I say that "I was ...

I consider Counting Stars by OneRepublic the song of my faith crisis. While I know that's not what it was written about, I do find it oddly fits for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hT_nvWreIhg Lately I been, I been losing sleep Dreaming about the things that we could be But baby I been, I been p...

Re: Patriarchal blessing shrinkage

About two weeks later my child gets an envelope in the mail with that familiar Church of Jesus Christ logo in the corner and the address of the random grandpa that lived nearby. Inside the envelope was a letter, inscribed with the words of the patriarchal blessing. After reading through it, Sister ...

Re: Friendship

You can always throw out the friendship topic entirely. You can say something like: "I was asked last minute to cover a lesson. However, I did not feel I could do justice to that topic in the time I had, so I am doing a lesson on _______ instead." Then go do what ever topic that you are interested in.

Re: Moses...

I read something somewhere that the first character in the bible that there is actual historical evidence of their existence was King David. So that means that about half of the NT, there is no proof that they ever existed. If you start throwing out people that there should be info on where isn't, y...

Re: First drink

Thanks, all. I'm tall, and I ate a salad and a full dinner, probably 3 glasses of water and the drink. Over about 90 minutes time. So I guess that makes sense that I felt nothing. These places selling a drink for $14 and you need 2-3 for anything interesting to happen... maybe I should save up and ...

Re: First drink

My understanding is that drinking with water helps to reduce the effects and lessen hangovers. A Pina Colota includes crushed ice as part of the drink, so that helps to dilute the effects of the alcohol. The recipes I am seeing have between equal to 50% more water (ice) than alcohol so you are getti...

The Genealogy gets real interesting on my wife side fast. She is from West Virginia and a lot of the stereotypes hold true for her ancestors. Once branch links to the Hatfield's and McCoy's. Another branch actually created a new race of human: The Chestnut Ridge People or Guineas. http://www.appalac...

Re: Are Wards Jumping the BSA Ship Early?

One thing I wonder about is what will become of the status of the Eagle Award/ When I was living in Utah many moons ago, there was a lot of clout associated with it. People would include their Eagle on job applications well into their professional careers. It is a bragging point for many teens and a...

Re: Are Wards Jumping the BSA Ship Early?

A bigger question for me is liability, a "non-Scout" latter-day saint chops his hand off with a hatchet--who's the responsible party? Will the church have regs and rules? Who teaches knife safety and if it isn't taught who's on the hook? I'm motorcycle safety instructor and staying on script and to...
