Re: What am I missing???

Red is trying to say that people who are opposed to LGBTQ rights are being persecuted for their beliefs and are coming out looking like monsters. I had an institute teacher who used to say: "Equal rights oppresses someone" I think that is what red is saying. Their world is being oppressed because th...

Re: Scientology on Mormon Stories

About 10 years ago a co-worker who knew nothing of the church asked me to explain what we believe. I had served a mission and had no trouble trying to convert others- but that was the first time I felt like I was completely insane while describing the church's history. Trying to explain to an intell...

Re: Bob McCue: The Church is like a Narcotic

I can see it being sort of like Paregoric, as well as Soma (the Brave New World variety, not the muscle relaxant). OMG! Thread jack! I loved paregoric! Boy that brings me back to my childhood- long before the days of safety helmets and seatbelts. Paregoric didn't work on me- I had a stomach of stee...

Re: RSP for a day?

My mom taught RS in the 70's that were all about art and culture and literature- they were amazing.

I would bring all of that back and throw out anything that references a prophet.

Re: Are You a Failed Parent?

It took a while but my mother has come around. My parents were married over 50 years before my dad passed. But between 5 children: 2 missions, 6 temple marriages, and 4 divorces. One has died but was active at the time of death, and only 2 of the remaining 4 are active. One of the active children is...

Re: Another big Joseph Smith blow out?

Another failure to know their audience. If the church wants to keep the younger crowd they need to do better than hero worship of a dead prophet. That will only endear the older crowd. If it doesn't appeal to the younger generation, they will tune out quick.

I will have my popcorn at the ready!

Re: Whats good on netflix?

I just finished El Camino. I liked the ending and I appreciate the sacrifice his friends made for him in the beginning to get away. In my line of work I have seen that there really is a code among thieves. There was a scene near the end with the strippers/cocaine when they were referencing Brigham ...

Happy Birthday!!!!!! :P One of my favorite threads is the annual halloween unveiling. I have always been too chicken to participate. But I am nearly to the F%$#-it stage and just might this year. The reason I stay on NOM is because of the importance of my relationships with my TBM family. The threa...

Re: Whats good on netflix?

El Camino I binge watched breaking bad a few years ago and loved it. I also liked Better call Saul which was a prequel to Breaking Bad. I always wanted them to make at least a mini series for what happened to Jessie Pinkman after Breaking Bad. El Camino is a Jessie Pinkman movie that takes place RI...

Praise the Lord this didn't happen on a Sunday! God must have intervened to allow this to happen on a day that no one was in the building!

Re: The Holy Ghost vs. active shooters

I just read the Church's new policy on responding to active shooters. Good heavens who comes up with this stuff? It sates that members should use whatever tools they have to defend themselves. Good thing a triple combinations weighs a ton. Right? Then it states that we should rely on the Holy Spiri...

I went to an all women birthday party over the weekend at a casino. Anytime we were near a bar- we did shots of fireball. It was much smoother than I expected. Loved it! 10/10 will try again. MUCH better than jaeger's.

Re: If you aren't doing conference, what are you doing?

I spent the weekend at a casino with a group of women celebrating multiple milestone birthdays in the group "50". Lots of loud laughter, gambling, mimosas, axe throwing, and shots of fireball.

I came away from that feeling more love than I ever did at any RS conference or event, ever.

Re: Mass disclosure update

Glad you survived.

Hopefully your relatives will get caught up in their own lives and busy schedules that it will become a non-issue.

Congrats on the g's! Looking back- along with the corresponding temple rituals- it really is the craziest cultiest thing. Time to move on.
