Press conference on Tuesday.
I'm going with: nothing really exciting but a way to get the membership buzzing.

Re: Two Steps Back...
1. Trying to "take things slow," as is often advocated, has led to anxiety to the tune of "I don't know what your going to spring on me next." So is taking things slow even a good approach? Maybe better to lay it all out and be done with it. Come home with a pack of cigs, some malt liquor, a hooker...

Re: The new third hour curriculum
I was going to take popcorn, but then thought better of it. I reasoned that like everything else Moron it would be all hat, and no cattle. I was right, much ado about nothing. 14 old guys in a room trying to figure out how to fill 45 minutes without even a conference talk to read. Booooooorrrrriiiii...

Re: The Prophet is dead, Long live RMN !!
I'm relieved for him and his family. Dementia is a terrible, terrible, way to go out. On the other hand, Russell Nelson and his wife are zealots. I think we've already seen their influence over the last two years, and TSM's passing won't make this ride any less bumpy. Don't be surprised if the new ...

Re: 21st century social conventions
Wait a minute... We shouldn't judge past leaders because they were following social norms of 200 years ago...(by implication that means they weren't following God). We can't judge today's leaders ecause they aren't subject to social norms if our day (lgbtqia issues), because they are following God. ...

Re: First Sunday Councils
I'm taking popcorn. It should be entertaining. Hell, our discussion about it coming up was entertaining in SS. People asking if this would be a good way for them to get counseling for their depression or not and others asking if it was going to be ok to share information like"....." which they then ...

Re: Youth interviews with bishop
Here is how I have handled it. As each new bishop has been called in our ward, I meet with him one-on-one. I explain that the church is very conscious of two deep leadership, as is the BSA. As a BSA leader if he were meet with a youth alone, behind closed doors, he would be removed from BSA leadersh...

What at all give you the impression that he is encouraging any behavior at all?
What gives you the right to try to deny others the opportunity to live their lives they way they choose and believe to be best?

Re: The Draw of the Temple
Linked: Interesting thoughts. I don't know if I would to so far as to say that "A major draw of the temple is that in the TBM mind it is an opportunity to do pure good without much pain. " In fact, I'm not sure that there is much of a draw for most TBM's. Sure there are a few that go all the time, b...

Re: What is killing the church?
***WARNING - LONG*** While the numbers on the roles keep increasing due to convert baptisms and children of record, these numbers are not translating well into active members as evidenced by the number of actual congregations. There can be little doubt that in major areas of the world, the church is...

I can understand being gone from the site Meilingkie. You need to do what is best for your own mental health and for the family. You are definitely missed, and it was good to hear your report.

Re: Special Meeting S Idaho
My guess is this is a Shakespeare meeting...you know... MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING If something amazing happens you will find out about it. The reality is that it is probably a 'special meeting' to create a buzz and drive up attendance because if they said that it was a meeting with a general authority ...

Re: Why People Leave the Church and Never Come Back
For me the answer is quite simple. The church is not what it claims to be. If the church was what it claimed to be, then the issues would resolve themselves If the church actually benefitted members they way that it claims it benefits members you wouldn't be able to stop them from doing missionary w...

Re: Meet with Bishop?
I have a rule that I don't meet with anyone unless I know what the meeting is about. Otherwise how am I supposed to prepare to be the most effective I can be? Remember that even an accused criminal has the right to know what they are being charged with. If the individual can't tell me what the meeti...

Re: General NOMference!!
I used to love doing the conference threads. They helped me to keep sane during difficult periods. Happily I can say that this year I will be watching/listening to very little of it. Instead I think I am going to go scuba diving.

Well I've maintained for a long time that:
"What is good about the church isn't unique, and what is unique about it isn't very good."

High priest lesson today
It was a wonderful time listening to the lesson on virtue. Here were the major takeaways: 1. A woman needs to dress modestly 2. A virtuous woman is without price 3. Too many men today are led into the paths of sin because women aren't being obedient 4. This leads to problems such as STDs and fatherl...
