Re: GA fireside review
That's where a lifetime of service in the LDS church takes you, indignity and servitude, 99.999% of the time. The .001% get sweet GA gigs and get to retire from church and enjoy the fruits of having been in the upper echelons of the church. Everyone else is used up and thrown out. I agree with what...
Re: Venting
I feel sad hearing your struggles. I hate that the church and their belief system too often comes between family members. Sometimes divorce is the best answer. I second what RR said though, you really need to fight if you want to save your marriage. In addition to what RR said, I think you shouldn't...

Me too, merrie miss, me too. (Reading over what I have written, I find it may be less than helpful to you, so ignore whatever doesn't fit your situation. I at least empathize with you.) I have been wondering this for at least 10 years now. So I understand about the long game, or glacial pace. After ...

Re: Regular rant about my mom
I am now in my 40's. I have been married for 20+ years to an amazing husband. I have 2 wonderful, happy children, own a nice house, have nice cars. I have published articles in law enforcement periodicals, I am a respected and an accomplished trainer in my field and hold an upper management positio...

You bet he would. "Some people have accused me of having multiple wives. Do you see any other wives? I don't either. Case closed" (Not an exact quote.)

Ouch!
As a grandparent myself, sometimes I wonder if the activities I plan to bond with the kids are something they just endure. I read your post as a reminder that my interests are not necessarily the kids' interests. It would be nice to meet in some middle ground though wouldn't it.

(((Achilles))). Hugs for you in your time of loss. Even when you are somewhat prepared, when loss is real, it still hurts like hell.

Re: Confused, directionless, and lonely
I feel like all my posts on here are so damn whiny. But you folks are all I've got, so here I am. That is the reason we are here. Isn't this where we all start? Suddenly in a new situation and have no one to discuss it with. I'm having a rough day. After another tense discussion with my wife last n...

Welcome tapirrider. I hope you enjoy being part of our little group. It's nice to have another tapir rider. Just please don't use the same avatar as Hagoth, cuz then I would be really confused.

What descriptive writing! I can almost imagine myself there. Oh wait, I was there, on most of those same roads this summer. In a Toyota. With air conditioning. And a cooler in the back seat. But we didn't stop at all those amazing sites. Now we'll have to try it again. Thanks for the great story. Re...

Re: In hindsight, two would have been fine.
This is such a touchy subject for me. Of course, I love all my kids. They were difficult and fun through the years. I just wish I'd known I had a choice in the matter. In my college years we were under a constant barrage of messages like: "don't put off having children", " one of your biggest regret...

If it were me, I'd let it go, mostly for their sake. They probably have forgotten all about it by now. Then I would remind myself that I was doing the best I could at the time with the knowledge or beliefs I had at that time. You reached out at the time with compassion and the most hopeful message y...

Re: Help Needed With Christ Centered Baptismal Prayer
Being mindful that as these children have been baptized to show they are trying to follow Jesus's example. Help them honor their covenant to love one another, to mourn with those who mourn and to comfort those in need of comfort as Jesus as shown us the way. Etc.

Re: Book Recommendation - The Big Picture by Sean Carroll
I second this recommendation. Although Carroll covers a lot of territory, it is fairly accessible to a non-scientist. I will need to read it a few more times though before it will totally make sense. If you liked this, you might look into the Ask Science Mike podcast. Mike McHargue was an Evangelica...

Re: For those who believe in God,...is he a jerk or nice?
How do we even know god is a "he"? Good question. I don't think of God in terms of gender. If I do say "he", it's in the gender neutral sense. I think we should create a new gender neutral pronoun that isn't also used for things. I like che (long E sound). Che, chey, chem, ches. Who's with me? Let...

Re: For those who believe in God,...is he a jerk or nice?
It goes like this (in no particular order and not an exhaustive list): 1. Since God commanded JS to take multiple wives, and threatened Emma with destruction if she didn't accept it, he is a jerk. 2. Since God commanded BY to teach and practice Blood Atonement, he is a jerk. 3. Since God gave licen...

Re: The church really misses the mark on this one
GiT, that rumor isn't worth the paper it isn't written on. If people can't choose the way they marry, then what's the difference. It is still a method of control by the corporate church. I'm not holding my breath. A few weeks ago I stood outside for a family wedding and hope to be able to again this...
