Re: Prophecy and Modern times

It will be one of the cheap prefab cookie cutter jobs.
The day of the double-wide temple has arrived.

SL Trib: The church could be worth $1 Trillion by 2044

I've copied & pasted it here, there are some graphs that didn't copy over. https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2023/07/16/lds-church-its-way-becoming/ LDS Church on its way to becoming a trillion-dollar faith The Widow’s Mite Report offers detailed analysis of the faith’s holdings well beyond the public...

I watched the first episode and really like it then kind of forgot about it. This is a good reminder, I need to go back and finish it.

Re: Let’s talk about new temples for a minute

Perhaps the temples getting overbuilt is really just a mortal problem. That the real intent is to build now so that there are enough temples to accommodate all the work to be done in the millennium? I've heard this but I was always under the impression that before the millennium the world was prett...

Bart Ehrman on NPR re: Armageddon

I only caught part of this on the radio today so I plan on going back to listen to the whole thing tonight. https://www.npr.org/2023/04/03/1167715957/armageddon-shows-how-literal-readings-of-the-bibles-end-times-affect-modern-time It occurred to me that church lessons rarely bring up the 2nd coming ...

Re: Has anyone read Living On the Inside of the Edge by Christian Kimball?

There was an article about him in the Salt Lake Tribune a month or two ago.

It's interesting that he wants to be a part of the church while not believing it. Most of us couldn't keep that up without losing part of our souls.

What would have happened if JS was successful in selling the BoM copyright?

It's well known that JS tried to sell the copyright for the Book of Mormon, a few times if my memory is correct. It's also fairly well known that JS never actually preached from the BoM. For that matter, I don't think Brig or any of the older prophets ever used the BoM for their sermons. I think pro...
The BoM says he made a bow out of wood to replace his broken steel bow.
Thanks for clarifying. It's been a long time since I've read it and for some reason I had it in my mind that Nephi made the steel bow out there in the wilderness.

Re: Is there a single unique truth claim of Mormonism that holds up?

Maybe this isn't very relatable to the question but take a look at the claim that Nephi made a high quality bow out of steel. Think about what it would take to do that: Nephi would have to mine the ore. Make a large smelter. After the ore was smelted he would have to have a blast furnace. Then he wo...

Re: Is Bishop really a 40 hour a week calling?

On a somewhat similar note: Why would a bishop pay tithing? I would think the time commitment would more than make up for the requirement to also give the church a bunch of money.

I already know the answer to this question, but has anyone actually been "healed" by a PH blessing? I have a friend who had a tumor on his pituitary gland. His treatment options were surgery or taking a medicine a few times a week to make the tumor shrink. He chose the medicine so he eats a pill a c...

Re: Immunology, Immunopathology, and the BoM

Jared Diamond's book Guns, Germs & Steel mentions this. Europeans were largely immune because they were actually around livestock that is mentioned in the BoM. The native Americans weren't immune to those diseases because they weren't actually around the livestock mentioned in the BoM.

I'm interested in the technology Jesus and HF use to instantly teleport across the universe from Kolob to Earth. If they would let byu have that technology, imagine the immense wealth the church could generate.

In one of the recent MS videos on youtube Dehlin said he just found out that real reason the church is building temples is so it can maintain the tax exempt status. Re: Under the Banner of Heaven TV show

The church could just remind viewers that this is the FLDS church and not THe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It's been quite a while since I read the book but, if my memory is correct, part of the book covered FLDS and part of it was about the Laferty murders & they were part of the "...
