Re: Creative Mormon Mythology
Brilliant! Moksha, you should write a book. By the way, did you use to write for MAD magazine? Your lyrics show stylistic similarities with MAD magazines of the early 1970's. Also, I don't want to blow your cover, but are your initials T.T. and did you once marry an A.A? I'm a B.R. who once wa...

Re: Oh the times they are a changin'
I believe agnostics and atheists get a raw deal in the USA. I'm all over the spectrum in religion and politics, but I'd rather vote for Michael Shermer than Pat Robertson.

Re: What does everyone listen to?
This makes me feel old. (I am old) ;) I would list Beatles, Crosby-Stills-Nash-Young, Chicago- before they went easy listening, Earth-Wind-Fire, Santana, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, etc. I do like Michael Buble, Norah Jones, tierney Sutton, Harry Connick. Most of my listening is Classical and main...

Re: Lazy Theology and Selective Scripture Reading
I would hazard to say whatever book the church is studying that year they use small amounts of each book 3% of the Bible 15 % of the Book of Mormon 1% of the D&C 25% of the PofGP There is so much in each book that does not pertain to current doctrine or contradicts it. It would be difficult to stud...

Re: Had lunch with 2 mentally out NOMs and one almost NOM today... really interesting.
Again this is purely anecdotal, but the believing wife was really upset by the devotionals this year attacking doubters. Her husband told her about the issues and she read the CES Letter/Letter For My Wife and then went to FAIR for rebuttals along with the newer apologetics like Terryl Givens, etc....

Re: Apocalypse vitamins and the return of FARMS
The insinuation that the Brethren have your back, means less when one recalls the Randy Bott/Washington Post affair. Prof. Bott forgot certain protocols (don't speak to the press) but nobody at the Church had his back.

The older they are (Star Trek, Star Wars) the more I like them. I have a pathological desire to relive my youth.

14 inches in Sandy yesterday, with two more last night. I just noticed this new category. How long has it been up?
PS Thank goodness the kids gave us a snowblower this Christmas.

Re: Dallin Oaks: “I suggest that research is not the answer"
Pres. Oaks does approve of “study and prayer.” Does he think research is different than study? I would say they are the same.

I’m not so sure it is a coincidence - they may have slapped something together fast knowing the news was going to break. Part of me says that people who make mistakes should be given second chances - but do I want to extend that to someone who molested a child, and caused that person severe lifelon...

Re: Dallin Oaks: “I suggest that research is not the answer"
"Conversion to the Lord precedes conversion to the Church." I wonder whether conversion to the church is necessary at all. This was a bit of a departure for Oaks I think. I've heard talks implying that one really can't fully be converted to Christ outside of the church. Strange hearing it put this ...

The word “pitiful” comes to mind. May I suggest that Pres. Oaks is up to his neck in denial.

Re: 2nd Anointing Lost and Found
I wonder what happened in 1928 that caused them to almost stop giving 2nd annointings? About 1928 an incident occurred which so incensed the First Presidency that they had all the recommend books brought in to the President's office, and instructions were given that no recommends of that character ...

Maybe Joseph "spilled his seed on the ground" like Onan. Exodus 38:9.

we will compare the word to a seed...
Alma 32:28 .....so we planted the seed. I didn't cast it out. I watched it grow, and so did my friends and family. I noticed it grew, but when I heard others describe it I thought, "it doesn't quite look that way to me. Others said they saw strong branches of obedience, and I saw some branches that ...

An excellent metaphor for someone who assumes that the Church is true, just as True North is true- or would it be magnetic North?

Great post. I would hope if you met President Oaks face to face he would at least be gracious. I hope you feel welcome here at NOM.
