Re: Return and Report- Smelders Quorum Mtg the First
Also, “those guys” letting the rest of the group know THEY know it’s all inspired and proves we’re on the verge of a growth explosion. (Yep. You heard it here first). Somebody ought to tell "those guys" that combining groups is not historically indicative of things that are growing. Maybe th...

Re: Buckle up, apocalypse imminent!
I just think the belief that the end of the world is imminent is an integral part of Christianity. It was there from the very beginning. Jesus preached it, Paul preached it, those who came after preached it in each subsequent generation. If you believe that Jesus is going to appear in the clouds at ...

Re: Big Brother/Big Sister is Watching (and reporting) On You....
I hopped on the website and had a look at the changes. First of all, the organization of "ministering" is exactly like home and visiting teaching. The website lists families who are "unassigned" and companionships who are "assigned" to each family. You can also break companionships into different di...

Re: Philosophical Question about Theocracy
Should the Church be a master of humanity rather than its servant? The idea of church and state separation is not a principle in the U.S. constitution, but I am increasingly glad for it. The phrase "separation of church and state" isn't in the constitution, but the idea absolutely is in the constit...

Re: New Ministering Program
If this is implemented as described, then it will be a lot worse than the home teaching program. Basically, the program remains the same, but the emphasis on numbers is being shifted away from whether someone was visited, and toward whether the leadership has interviewed a ministering companionship....

It sounds like they are only gathering some Yes / No information:

+5 for TEAM GONG! I don't care whether he thinks it's revelation. TEAM GONG!!!111one -5 For openly admitting that he's trotting out speakers from around the world for the sole purpose of appearing diverse. He gave a little sneer, which should really be another -5. Do it, don't hang a lamp shade on ...

Re: We can't criticize everything
I attended priesthood session last night and was pleased with how that meeting was used by Nelson. It was very different than previous meetings. I was also quite surprised with the changes. It takes balls to demote your most faithful group of supporters. So you think the High Priests will see it as...

We can't criticize everything
Myself and many others have long criticized the lack of diversity in the within the twelve. They've begin to rectify this with Gong and Soares, so I think they deserve some kudos. I didn't believe they'd step outside of the white Utah professional, but they did, and it's a refreshing surprise. Yet, ...

Re: Changed my mind about watching conference
Church is a literal kingdom and its leaders have the same authority as actual monarchs The church is the only true church on earth, meaning the only one that god himself authorizes. Because of the above facts, our primary concern should be obedience to the brethren Ballard hit all of those points, ...

Re: Changed my mind about watching conference
Things have been progressing a little for DW and I, this conference we are not requiring anybody to watch all (or any) of conference. When I talked about it, my 14 yo DD was shocked and hurt that I suggested that conference watching was optional. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, I think in YW they...

Re: New apostles leaked
My brother-in-law is in a stake presidency and has worked with both L. Whitney Clayton and Kevin Pearson. Last night I told him my prediction was that these two would be elevated to apostles this weekend without revealing that I saw this leak. I figured that if I was wrong, no one would care. But i...

Re: At which point is someone a full tithe payer (rhetorical)
All that said, back tithing can’t be doctrinal, right? You are a full tithe payer the moment your declare yourself a full tithe payer. There's no such thing as "back tithing". Next time ask him to show you where back tithing is explained either in the scriptures or the hand book of instructions. He...

Changed my mind about watching conference
I haven't watched the last two conferences and so far I've suffered no ill effects. Still, I've changed my mind about watching this one. The church has been on pause for several years now as Monson battled with his illness, and I'm curious about the direction is about to take for the next little whi...

Re: Snuffer Movement Conference
Ah yes it is a problem when ones hermeneutics disagree with anothers. As you know wars have been fought over that issue. It is also painful to have our paradigm threaten by new information. I am sure you are very familiar with Kuhns views in SSR. The problem with tying our willingness to accept ide...

New Correlation Department Survey
I don't know how many of you were privileged to get one of these, but I received a Correlation Department survey sent out by the church's statistical division. The questions all centered around two ideas and how respondents view their relationship to one another: religion and spirituality. They want...

Re: Snuffer Movement Conference
I understand that most here would make a different choice but it is dissembling to look at a man who claims to be a prophet sent from God and complain he doesn't have the requisite academic credentials Just to be clear, I don't care if someone has academic credentials. It's the content I care about...

Re: Has the updated policy been in the works for months?
It starts to feel like the LDS church has a bunch of handbook changes and policies simply held in reserve so that they can be released at the right time to thwart the momentum of apostate agitators like Sam Young. Yes, the date on the policy says it's from August 2017, but I remain skeptical about ...
