Re: Fantastic Mormon Discussions Interview with Haley Lemmon
My favorite part about this podcast is how much Bill tries to put a faithful spin on it, and Haley is effectively like "Yeah I see what you mean about the church needing to change the narrative because the entire JS story is a lie" I get why some faithful would dismiss the JST as not a big deal, but...

Re: How many smoking guns do you need?
I think my smoking guns would go like this: 1. Book of Abraham 2. Translation/BoM issues (translation inconsistencies in the history, KJV words that weren't available, deutero-isaiah, etc) 3. The changes in the D&C that completely change the stories of polygamy, priesthood, etc 4. JST translation be...

Re: How many smoking guns do you need?
My wife said recently that if there was evidence the church was a fake, how are there any members left? A question that would apply just as well to Scientology and many other organizations. Yep... or the FLDS or Islam or people buying into the latest pyramid scheme (which Utah leads the nation on)....

Re: Purpose vs Reaction
I think the fact that you're able to realize that is a really positive part of the process. When I stopped going I always kind of resented that my wife and I couldn't be "normal" sometimes. If I was at a work function I couldn't drink anything, but I also didn't want to go into why... no one knew it...

Re: How many smoking guns do you need?
I was walking my dog a little bit ago and was literally going to post this exact thread! I think when talking about "smoking guns" you covered the basics, although I'd add the KJV phrases carried into the BoM count. Add Deutero-Isaiah and I think that's a smoking gun since neither the KJV changes no...

Re: Mom is in the hospital today
It's natural to feel guilt and it's beyond natural to replay all of the decisions you have made that make you feel that guilt. I think time is the only thing that is going to help here, which is a double edged sword because for now all you have time to do is think. I remember when we had to put our ...

Re: Mom is in the hospital today
I'm so sorry about your mom - that is awful news and I know there's nothing anyone can say that will make you feel better about it. That will take time for the initial shock to wear off and to get a gameplan once she has been evaluated and back home. As for the church - I have come to blame the chur...

Re: 1830 Interview with Joseph Smith Senior
Wasn't Nephi (not Moroni) part of the original heavenly manifestations? This would explain why the clothes were bloody assuming they were the same clothes Nephi was wearing when he cut off Laban's head! Soon after joining the Church, he had a very singular dream; but he did not tell his father of h...

Re: Incredible Message for Native Americans!
This video is insulting on so many levels.
It also further proves that the new wave of apologists that keep saying to stay in the church because they will 'come around' to the reality of their history are full of it. This church is going to continue to lie, deflect, and gaslight until the bitter end.

Re: No to Medical Marijuana for Utah
I'm not going to say that MM is the be all end all for patients, but I will say that it has a legit medical use that can not only help people feel better, but literally save their lives. My mom has been on non-stop medication since her cancer diagnosis now about 3 years ago due to the treatment of t...

Re: How many actual revelations have happened since Joseph Smith (that have not been disavowed)?
The LDS church easily has a narrative that allows it to retain everything about prophets by not have to prove anything by it. The infamous Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet give a pass to prophets so that they can receive revelation but not have to take a firm stand on receiving it. Ma...

Re: Priesthood Restoration timeline - Official church narrative vs Historical timeline
If you are looking for "faithful" sources, you might try this document: https://byustudies.byu.edu/content/priesthood-restoration-documents . It includes quotes regarding the restoration of the priesthood made by anyone before the death of Oliver Cowdery. It is clear to me that there is a progressi...

Re: How many actual revelations have happened since Joseph Smith (that have not been disavowed)?
I'd be livid if the church received a revelation about the financial crisis and then saved their own assets while leaving the faithful out to dry. But it proves one of the biggest points for me - this church is just masterful at retrofitting faith promoting material. Transfiguration of BY, the evolu...

Re: Priesthood Restoration timeline - Official church narrative vs Historical timeline
Thanks all - I'm going to try and get this formatted much cleaner this week and maybe see if I can get it tossed up on a website or something so it can look a lot nicer/more organized. If it turns out OK, I'm going to work on the translation process next along with blacks and the priesthood, given t...

Re: No to Medical Marijuana for Utah
Medical marijuana is a farce. The vast majority of people using it are out for a buzz not some pain relief. If not so they would just give you a brownie prescription to take to the pharmacy. I am opposed to most all drugs that alter your mood or behavior except in cases of real mental illness. They...

Re: Looks like I'm a project now.
The amount of pressure that is put on those who either have shown doubts, have spouses that doubt, or actually stop going is insane... And it's frustrating because they know it can work to bring people back in, and try to erase the doubts caused by the dishonesty/manipulation throughout the member's...

Re: No to Medical Marijuana for Utah
Surveys show that 77% of Utahns support legalization of medical cannabis. If this law fails to get enacted it will be purely because of interference by LDS church leadership. Which also would prove that as much as members protest the idea, they will blindly follow any instruction given by prophets ...

How many actual revelations have happened since Joseph Smith (that have not been disavowed)?
I was talking to my wife about how few revelations there have been since joseph smith... and I started thinking that since Brigham Young it's been almost nothing of consequence... and most of BY's doctrines have since been declared null and void (ban on blacks, Adam-God, blood atonement, etc). Is th...
