Re: A possible source of Joseph Smith's ideas?
I could be wrong, but I think Dan Carlin did an episode on this in his Hard Core History podcast - Prophets of Doom if I recall. Very fascinating history and fascinating parallels with Mormonism. Also shows how crazy religion can be and the damage it can do. Rather than a possible source, maybe this...

Re: Ayahuasca. Thoughts?
I have not experienced ayahuasca, but my son has. He said that beyond the visionary psychedelic effects it was a harsh and honest teacher that made him see his character faults and showed him the mistakes he had made in his relationships with others. He said that it was the opposite of intoxication...

Re: Bednar
This is consistent with what I’ve heard of him as well! My uncle is a 110% TBM professor at BYUI and has said on a few occasions that Bednar rubbed him the wrong way and that opinion is more common than not among folks who were under him during his tenure as president up there. Also have heard that ...

Re: Ayahuasca. Thoughts?
It's on my bucket list. There are other great psychedelics to look into that might be more readily available and more user friendly. I'd recommend starting with the "fun guys". Micro doses of 1G or less provide heightened brain activity with mellow euphoria and are proving to help people with depre...

Ayahuasca. Thoughts?
Hello NOM folks - Wondering if anyone here knows a good deal or has personally experienced Ayahuasca. Been listening to the Joe Rogan podcast and he gets on the topic of this "herb" in an interview with Graham Hancock, and it sounds interesting. I'm particularly interested if anyone here has used it...

https://www.deseret.com/opinion/2019/12/17/21026103/the-washington-post-mormon-church-whistleblower-says-billions-thank-goodness This defense is kinda hilarious. Okay, let's allow the church their argument that this $100b is a rainy day fund for when s*** hits the fan in an apocalyptic fashion. Is t...

Re: Mormonism's Money is in the hotseat
If the whistleblower report is valid and the church indeed has broken the law in terms of skirting taxes, it's gonna be interesting to see how they crawl out of this hole. The church's ability to get out of this will really reveal how powerful they are behind the scenes. The church is likely very ve...

Mormonism's Money is in the hotseat
Wow. This took some serious guts on the part of the former portfolio manager of Ensign Peak. Wonder if this issue will actually get regulatory attention. If so, this could be similar to the fallout from Joseph's Kirkland bank failure. https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/mormon-church-has-m...

Re: New RFM episodes on Translation
Great work RFM. I thought your recent episode is one of your best. Would love to see an apologist try to challenge your logic. Joseph’s “translation” work is indistinguishable from a fraud. So true... I had a long convo with my TBM mother in law about this just the other day. I finished the friendly...

Re: Christmas devotional more miracle downplaying
Sister Jones just spoke of her mother being sick for christmas and all the family desperately praying for a healing miracle which didn't happen. Do these people hear themselves?!? Has the day of miracles ceased? Moroni 7:37 – ...it is by faith that miracles are wrought; ... wherefore, if these thin...

When I initially saw that there was 7 parts, I almost passed it up. But just finished it and glad I listened. It was great getting to know more about you consig in this interview. My opinion of you has gone up from an already decently high level. Don’t give attention to your inner voice that tells y...

Re: Mormon Stories Interviews RFM
I was also bothered by the reasons given for using KJV 2nd person pronouns, thee and thou and related words. Every other language on the planet uses familiar words to address God. Only in English do we have to show "respect" by using archaic language, that originally conveyed familiarity, that dist...

Re: Accessing NOM at church?
On the topic of accessing NOM at church... During my final months of actively attending the COJCOLDS, I was an organist and would sit right behind the bishopric for sacrament. During a fast & testimony meeting there were one too many testimonies on Joseph Smith, so I checked out of the meeting and r...

Re: Terryl Givens steps into the BoA ring
Yeah when I say we, I am speaking of FAIR. I am one of its original founders, Kerry Shirts. Well, the church did try the I am a Mormon campaign, but still, for every Mormon online, there are an overwhelmingly number of responders who just see through the bullroar anymore. Me? I'm just a little slow...

Joseph's Transition from Trinitary to Godhead
Doctrinal question for you folks about Joseph's evolving theology on God... So I understand that Joseph went from teaching a Trinitarian view of God (as evidenced in the BofM and Lectures on Faith) to the Godhead view. Of course, this fact makes the two first-vision accounts very problematic - the f...

Would the church ever change the name of BYU...?
With the church taking a new approach with its branding and all... it's got me thinking as to whether they would ever consider renaming BYU. What do you NOMers think? Let's just say that some subgroup put together a sophisticated smear campaign against Brigham Young's (BY the man, not the BYU) chara...

Re: Request to RFM and Bill Reel - Episode on Mosaic of Problematic Mormon History
This sounds a bit like a podcast version of the CES Letter. How effective it is to a TMB/Semi-TBM would probably be about the same. The shotgun tactic of throwing everything out there to see what hits. That being said, I would find it interesting. Sounds like your asking for a CES Podcast? :l...

Request to RFM and Bill Reel - Episode on Mosaic of Problematic Mormon History
Dear consiglieri, I think it would be fantastic if you and Bill Reel put together an episode (or multi-part episode) that would act as a mosaic in covering the problematic points of Mormon history from the beginning to the present time. Would love to hear you and Bill highlight what you believe to b...

Re: Burned over district & Joseph's search for truth
Daymon Smith wrote a set of books on LDS church history. I found the book that talked about the beginnings quite interesting because I learned things I had never known (things I had been taught were uniquely Mormon, but turned out to be common beliefs at the time). Volume 1 Volume Two A Volume Two ...
