Re: Church apologizes for Racism!
It got a lot of attention, and now the church needs to explain why it's not sorry. Genius.

Re: Developing apathy towards Mormonism
Bottom line is that you have to stop going to church. And you have to find a new life/community outside of Mormonism. The latter part takes a while, so start now.

Re: In which I lose my best friend
So sorry. I recommend not trying to convince anybody of anything. Just don't bring it up. Don't make them choose between you and their entire belief and life structure. You will likely lose. Just stay respectful of their beliefs and remember that you likely had extremely black and white thinking lik...

Re: How many smoking guns do you need?
Those are great Hagoth! I need to listen to the new podcast that Bill Reel did on the sources for the JST translation. The Book of Abraham was my smoking gun. Joseph Smith is referring to specific characters and saying they mean one thing and they DON'T! You can't say that translation doesn't mean t...

Re: What are your hobbies?
* I enjoy strategy board games and I have a lot of them. What is your definition of strategy board games? There are so many types. I play hex and counter conflict simulations (wargames). Lately I have been playing a lot of the new Battletech computer game. Games like Agricola, Pandemic, Scythe, Pow...

Re: I'm Tired
I feel your pain. I really recommend that you make efforts towards finding non-Mormon friends and/or a non-church community. If your ward family is your entire world you will never be able to find peace because the cost of dissension is way too high. You need a good alternative. You need an alternat...

Re: Incredible Message for Native Americans!
This is what happens when they deliberately hide the essays and discourage people from talking about them and don't include this information in lessons... some people still believe that Native Americans were from Lehi.

So he was basically saying, "Look how awesome I am!" It was cleverly disguised, but it was about him and his attempts to raise his own status and not the newly wed couple.

Re: Girls Allowed into Boy Scouts... Now the Church is Really Going to Dump Scouting
Alright, we can finally have a a scouting program that's focused entirely on priesthood related activities, run by men who want to be there even less than the boys. I'm so jealous I wasted my youth on regular scouting. We used to do the personal progress with the boys once a week. Wow did we, the l...

Re: Authenticity
Authenticity may be over-rated. We all hide aspects about ourselves that others might find unpleasant. Untidy bedrooms and pooping come to mind as examples of hiding our authentic selves. I think what you may really want is to go live a new life. My recommendation is just go do it! without making pe...

Re: There's no good time to make a break
Yes. There is no good time. I also have young kids and I will also be missing baptisms, weddings, and baby blessings in my future. But for me, an hour or two of embarrassment is not worth hundreds of hours of me going crazy in church meetings every year and 10% of my income. People will judge me unf...

Re: My parents were called as temple workers
One of my best friends is a temple worker and finds meaning and purpose in doing this pointless work. He is disabled and would otherwise be sitting at home watching WWF wrestling. Who am I to tell him that he is unhappy? I find meaning and purpose in similarly pointless activities like reading histo...

Re: Does anyone have examples of a GA being a bully?
I have read stories of Bruce McConkie, and it appears he really was a bully. I've also been surprised at things published in the Answer To Gospel Questions by Joseph Fielding Smith. I heard someone say that JFS hd a "cavalier attitude". After I read portions of that book, it became clear HE DID. Wh...

Re: Who woulda thought?
I started watching Leah Remini’s show on Scientology. I never would have expected it to break down so much of my shelf. I can’t stop thinking, the church isn’t true. I still want to study and give it the benefit of the doubt. But I’m feeling so distant from the church. I’m so frustrated that they a...

Re: "It gives me hope..."
My thoughts: The Mormon church is likely your wife's entire world. She is primarily concerned about her own status and feeling of security within that community. That is much more important to her than the morality of telling a lie. And I actually agree with her. Especially telling a lie that can't ...

Re: indulgences and temples
You definitely have to pay for your salvation. If you don't pay your tithing you are not counted worthy. I'm sure that one of the reasons for the emphasis on the temple is because it increases tithing income. Sacrifice increases devotion. The more they ask of you, even if what they are asking you t...
