Re: No recording Bishops and Meetings

It's like they're hanging a banner on the temple that says "SEE, WE DO HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE!" Unfortunately, there's a very thin cartoon veil between church and state in Utah, so this will probably pass. The membership will probably welcome it as a much needed wall on the border between Truth and ...

Re: Mesoamerica discovery

"Sheep herding" means playing whatever-it-is-they-played on a Mesoamerican ball court, and hacking dude's arms off. Actually, my stake president clarified for me that they were really herding Turkeys. Maybe it was the mesoamerican version of the Puppy Bowl. Imagine what everyone thought when this M...

Re: Mesoamerica discovery

I visited Tikal in Guatemala . It was a fascinating trip and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in archaeology. Claiming that there was some kind of ancient Mormon influence on the area is really not possible. Any hints of the LDS gospel will be only what you bring in yourself. I loved...

Re: Mesoamerica discovery

What will they find? Would be interesting if they find inscriptions describing or illustrating the Mayan rituals of animal and human sacrifice.... like are found in some other sites. The Mayan 'temple rites' are not what the Mormons are thinking... Pretty brutal, borrowed from the Toltecs (accordin...

Re: Mesoamerica discovery

Wow, there were forts - the Book of Mormon must be true! Because no one besides Book of Mormon people ever had forts or warfare. My thoughts exactly. A real challenge would be to find an ancient civilization that didn't have conflict. The only one that comes to mind is the Book of Mormon's claim th...

Re: No posting on Sundays

This whole "Sabbath Day Observance" focus is a joke. It just tells me that the powers-that-be at the top are completely clueless . They seem to think that getting people to jump trough "Sabbath Day" hoops will stop the exodus. It appears to be further step in the emerging pattern that this is a chu...

Re: No posting on Sundays

This topic is very appropriate after the fourth Sunday lesson on the Sabbath. Our teacher, who is a bit on the slow side, thought it was a good idea to commit everyone in the EQ to keep Sunday holier than thou. He suggested no computer or video games among others. I'm fascinated by the smorgasbord ...

Re: Good news in the village, had to share here

In a somewhat morbid sort of way it reminds me of that scene in Alien where the creature is plastered on the face of that guy, but every time the other crewmen try to pull the creature off it just wraps itself tighter around the poor guys neck. The more I try to help my wife the more of a strangleh...

I am all for the salmon method. The female puts down a thousand or so eggs, and the male swims over them spreading sperm. That would be very practical in a zero gravity environment.
Oh, how I wish it was portrayed this way in the temple film.

Re: Declining convert baptisms

At Ward Conference yesterday, we were told to do two things: one was to pray that more active families would move into the ward, the other was.........you guessed it read the Book of Mormon. (In three months) Wouldn't it be interesting if you could find some correlation between people actually read...

I am still a bit skeptical that these two ideas, of unimaginable intellect and unquenchable primal instinct, go together.
Which only makes it even worse. Imagine being cast in the role of an infinite procreator, an eternity of non-stop doin' the nasty, but never being "in the mood."

Welcome Graey. As you can see, you've landed in a spot where people can really relate to your dilemma.

I found the discussion about headaches particularly interesting because I recently realized that my weekly Sunday headaches went away once I could admit to myself that it's all make believe.

What kind of candy?

I need to find some kind of comfort while at church. Currently I don't find any while there.
In order to feel the spirit I think I would need the kind from Colorado commonly known as "edibles."

I don't see anything out of place TBH. I think it's just a case of pareidolia. I'll see your pareidolia and raise you a subvocalization. I'll see your subvocalization and raise you a ventriloquism. Hmmm. At first I was joking but now I'm beginning to wonder. https://i.imgur.com/WEYoASHl.jpg

Re: Standing for the stake president

I was living in Las Vegas when Pres. E. T. Benson spoke at a regional conference. It was staged in a casino convention hall and he got a standing ovation. He raised his cane and used it like a magic wand to seat everyone. We all sat down in unison as if from the power of his cane. He seemed delighte...

I do agree with you, but I'm still waiting for what FairMormon states about this finding. It should be good for a laugh. Let me take a shot at the spin they will put on it: "Joseph used inspiration to determine which portions of the Bible commentary were correct. God had prepared the original...

Re: Standing for the stake president

Welcome to NOM, unbroken! I think this kind of silliness is dangerous. I remember when they used to say that our leaders are really servants. I hate to see them transforming into overlords. It would be hilarious (and appropriate) if everyone just laughed out loud at the suggestion that they need to ...
