Re: Annalee Skarin- Mormon Prophetess?

From the cited WIki page: Annalee Skarin (born Annalee Kohlepp: July 7, 1899 – Transfigured 1952), was an American Latter-day Saint writer ... Wow! Whoever wrote that page was a believer in her... I have never seen someone listed as transfigured on wikipedia. Yeah! That made me wonder if some peopl...

Annalee Skarin- Mormon Prophetess?

It always amazes me when I learn about new, to me, actors in the Mormon drama. Annalee Skarin is such a person. Wikipedia gives a short description of her life, but leaves more questions than answers. Has anyone else encountered her story? read her books?

Old thoughts from Sunstone....I really liked this one.

Janice Allred: "This idea, that theology and revelation are incompatible, that theology is a substitute for revelation, is widespread in the Church. I will argue that, on the contrary, revelation and theology are inextricably interrelated and that the real danger to the Church is orthodoxy which doe...

Re: A miracle for Satan? Temple reopening delayed

I think Pres. Nelson and the LDS Church playing the "devil" card is toxic. They do it too much and, for me, it is ridiculous. I do know TBM's who would disagree with me, but if they reviewed LDS history it seems self-evident to me that blaming so many things on the devil is stupid, even if one belie...

Do you have a god?

This thought just popped into my head- "Do You Have A God? I would answer yes: my God is Love and Truth. My God did not create the world in 6 days. My God did create people, in a metaphorical way, and maybe a literally metaphorical way. (I'm not prepared to explain that) My God did not tell Joshua t...

Re: Tithing Unsettlement

You don't have to answer this question Graey, but I am wondering: do you emphasize tithing a lot? Do you think a vigorous campaign to increase tithing settlement attendance next year would make a difference?

Re: Mormon Missions ARE Human Trafficking

the Church had to work long and hard to get me on a mission, and ultimately it was a growing experience. In retrospect, I wonder if I would have stayed after I learned some of the unsavory aspects of historical Mormonism in my 12th month, if the Church hadn't made coming home early so shameful. I do...

Re: Peter Santanello's new "Mormon" YouTube videos.

I watched two of the videos and parts of two others. Santello questioned the Post Mormon guy harder than the group of TBM's, at least in my opinion.
I had never heard of Santello before this series. How did he get to be so popular?

Re: The most correct book....

To paraphrase Gordon Hinkley, "people find what they're looking for." The BOM is often presented as the "proof" for TCOJCOLDS and everything associated with it. People who want it to be historical find evidence, slim though it is, for it. It really hasn't made inroads into mainstream History, or any...

The most correct book....

With the whole LDS world focusing on the Book of Mormon next year, I was wondering, "what does--or doesn't-- make the BOM the most correct book on earth?"

Re: Book of Abraham Apologetics History

This is, for me, one of the big smoking guns shooting down Mormonism. The historic claims made by the Book of Abraham, the Book of Moses, and yes the BOM all are incompatible with ancient history that is recorded on Egyptian temple walls grave vault walls, Mesopotamian, Sumerian, and other ancient t...

Non-Partisan history is more interesting.

Being a history buff, I pay special attention to other history buffs. We are weird, nerdy, and often snobbish. We are also often partisan to a particular view. Civil War history buffs can be interesting, but if they are partisan to one side or the other, they can also be a pain in the tush. A Southe...

Re: Peter Santanello's new "Mormon" YouTube videos.

I watched the second video, the one where it's just like a neighborhood FHE. The questions were soft and the TBM's were giving all the standard, pat answers, except for the one lady who said if it wasn't for the Church she might not have chosen to have children. I thought, "That's interesting" but t...

Re: Lester Bush, author of "Priesthood Ban" article dies

From my "1975 missionary" perspective the Priesthood Ban was not going to change until the Millennium. That was what Brigham Young said. According to the Tribune article, and other things I've read, the Lester Bush article made a deep impression on Spencer Kimball. It's possible that it influenced a...

Lester Bush, author of "Priesthood Ban" article dies

This is especially interesting for old-timers like me: 8-) Historian who traced racist LDS priesthood/temple ban to Brigham Young dies www.sltrib.com Lester Bush's story is a very interesting contrast to that of Russell Ballard. I would submit that Bush impacted the Church far more significantly tha...

Re: Ayaan Hirsi Ali Joins Christianity

I agree that there are some people that need religion, but it's not for everybody. Personally I see the quest for knowledge as giving meaning to life. Also Love as a principle of action can give meaning to life, apart from religion. Oddly and/or sadly some people can't seem to see love or charity ex...
