Re: What Would It Take to Keep You?

The standard works are not what tbey are purported to be. And there is no mormon church without their validity.

So there is nothing to stay for no matter what they change. All they change is window dressing if there is no truth in tbeir core claims

you are only saved by grace after all you can do. If you are not operating at full capacity, there is more you can do. More is built into the path to salvation.

a creator god vs a moral god

I was reading a Jewish commentary on quora yesterday. Among the many things he covered: Abraham as another polytheist or the first monotheist. He felt Abraham's claims of the most high god requires comparison to other gods in order to be most high. Though generally Abraham is argued as the first mon...

Re: Cocaine Mummies

Your view assumes a linear authorized writing that was never rewritten. I think the evidence of Bible origins and timing don't support that view. But there is no evidence of an Exodus, a Canaanite conquest or a general external settling of Canaan. Canaan collapsed over a period of 1000 years and Isr...

4- Even if it was a temple f some sort, there was no evidence that it was a temple to yahweh. 5- A Jew would NEVER presume to build a temple. There was ONE temple, it was the one and only house of God (that goes for Nephi too). The Jews built multiple temples. The exclusivity claim for Jerusalem wa...

Re: Does truth really matter?

Truth can matter, individually, but it doesn't matter inherently in human life generally so far. That may change. What do you think will drive that change? People become more educated and tired of the current bullsh#t in society/politics and start to think about stuff and vote with their wallets an...

Re: Does truth really matter?

Truth is a matter for those with the luxury of examined living. Anyone who comes to NOM does so because of having examined their life. It has happened at times in history prior to the modern era, in the Hellenistic era, Rome, China, maybe even Babylon. It began again in the Renaissance. These cultur...

Re: Does truth really matter?

How do you both explain cognitive dissonance? Humans experience actual emotional pain when their mental models aren't self-consistent. The kicker is that those mental models include memories and impressions of real-world observations, so cognitive dissonance continually pushes us toward more accura...

Re: Mysterious encounters with EQ

One of the founding peeves of our relationship (in a good way) was that we would never commit the other without prior approval. My mom used to farm me out to all sorts of tasks without asking me. That would not be my adult life. And it is not. I've told her to tell them to talk to me directly but th...

Re: Does truth really matter?

I think the relevance of truth to ones life is related to your wealth and education. People struggling for daily survival aren't concerned with many forms of Truth and only those facts that keep them alive. If truth were an elemental fact of survival we would have evolved very different senses than ...

Re: Mysterious encounters with EQ

Twice a year in my inactive experience they will try to meet with you. I turn it down. They no longer have accurate contact information for me by email or phone. And yet they never seem to use the knowledge they have to talk with me directly. It's always through my active wife. To me it's clear this...

Re: Does truth really matter?

Human consciousness is a lossy kluge. It constructs a model of reality just barely good enough to keep you alive to pass on your genes. Accuracy, truth, are not things particularly rewarded by evolution of consciousness. We have to go out if our way and exercise rigorous controls to keep the flaws o...

Re: Thoughts on Human Origins

So wouldn't that common ancestor have to look or be more primitive than chimps? Wouldn't homosapiens have had to go through a "chimp-like period"? There is a misconception in that statement. Evolution doesn't have a direction, necessarily, no end goal. Greater development isn't necessarily advantag...

Re: Next change predictions

I can see the WOW argument but don't think they'll change it. It's the hallmark everyone outside thinks of for the church. Too high profile and cuts to the core of LDS external identity. It's about the only thing they can point to as successful prophecy.

Asia growth is done I think.
