Re: April ensign article

Ensign articles take a long time to go through the vetting process. I wouldn't be surprised if pen first went to paper shortly after L. Tom Perry's comment, "We want our voice to be heard against all of the counterfeit and alternative lifestyles that try to replace the family organization that God H...

Re: April ensign article

It's a shame they label teachings "The War Goes On" and in a recent address by Elder Cook, "A Banquet of Consequences." It makes it sound like the god of Mormonism doesn't have an ounce of compassion, grace, or empathy. The world is only as horrible as you believe it to be. The war goes on vs. Let u...

Re: Thinking about my old EQP

I feel for most EQPs. Most are ordinary Joes tasked with the impossible, get people to do home teaching, which is something no one has any interest in doing. No one ever takes that step back and asks whether changes can be made to the program to make it more palatable, so the EQP is tasked with play...

Re: Sincere or emotional manipulation?

I was one of those weepy types. Every once in a while I'd get emotional when teaching a lesson or giving a talk. It wasn't a matter of turning on the water works because that's what I had seen others do, it was genuine emotion. Looking back I think it was mostly related to severe scrupulosity. I alw...

The worst: When the leaders try to be charitable and let the kids line up to get food first. What happens: kids pile their plates with food, take two bites, and toss the rest in the garbage. Meanwhile the food is gone by the time the people in the back of the line get a stab at it. If you are a lead...

Re: Top three prophetic actions or statements

I like how some of the more recent general priesthood sessions have only gone 90 minutes. I hope they don't go back to 2 hours when the mantle passes to the next guy but it likely will.

90 minute conference sessions are so much easier to manage/sit through.

Re: Buddhist Monks And Martial Arts

A student said to his master, "You teach me fighting, but you talk about peace. How do you reconcile the two?

The master replied, "It is better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war."

Not Buddhist, but it's along the lines of the question in the OP.

Still under construction, Lake Nona describes itself as a “city of the future” with super-fast internet connections, “one of the top private [golf] clubs in the world” and homes ranging from luxury apartments to sprawling estates. The internet connections will be like the town's water. Free flowing...

Re: A missionary valentine

Today a tbm, single, male friend of mine signed up to feed the sister mishies dinner this month. The only available date was Feb. 14. The guy asked me if this was ok. My mouth could not be stopped from saying that it would be if they read D&C 132 together. I don't think he got it... but he'll be ha...

I know the feeling. I know of a few people in my ward that I could talk to... except they have parted ways with the church so they're never there on Sunday.

Re: #6 I Will Tell You ........By The Holy Ghost

I used to lean heavily on D&C 46:14: " 13 To some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he was crucified for the sins of the world. 14 To others it is given to believe on their words, that they also might have eternal life if they continue faithful." I ...

"We know that God follows natural laws and works according to science because he invented science. So when we gain a perfect understanding (after we are dead conveniently) we will understand the laws that must be at work that we don't know right now." I've heard this many times. What is the officia...

This thread got me thinking. If you're a woman your answers are pretty much going to be RS, YW, or primary. The end. Oops, I forgot Den Mother.

Re: Passive aggressive Mormon Women

I saw several posts from orthodox Mormon women that didn't support the women's march. The top three reasons that were mentioned for being against the march (or more pointedly against the women participating in the march) were: 1) They were marching to protest election results . Not the man Trump him...

Honestly, it sounds like a dad joke that didn't land. In the true spirit of, if you have to explain it, it isn't funny:

He probably knew it was on a loop and was making a self deprecating joke. "Look at me, I'm so dumb I watched a loop for 4 hours thinking it was one long video."

The way I knew was when the HG appeared and punched me in the junk. Man, was he offended. Plus All I did was make him stay up past his precious bed time.
You made him late for his 'getting offended' appointments in other time zones.
