Re: Catholic church donates 10% of its donations to charity

And that’s with actually paying TRAINED staff and buildings that exist to help the greater community. I didn’t see someone scanning bar codes at the last cathedral I attended. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that 10% number shrinking with all the lawsuits piling up in New York in New Jersey with all ...

Re: Weirdness of the LDS faithful

Does anyone like me grow tired of all the weird stuff in our church ? I am referring to stuff like Temple worship, underwear, masonic rituals etc etc cant we just be like most evangelicals ???? Too much weirdness that you are not told about as an investigator. Mormonism is weird on the outside. Eva...

Re: Turning Christains into Atheists

He says, And that’s the greatest irony of it all; that the very Evangelicals who’ve spent that last 50 years in this country demonizing those who reject Jesus—are now the single most compelling reason for them to do so. They are giving people who suspect that all Christians are self-righteous, hate...

Re: Turning Christains into Atheists

When we left. We visited around a dozen churches over the course of ten months. We found the churches to be filled with nice loving people. Our girls had a nice time learning about other faiths. Ultimately, we decided we just aren’t church people. We are just too skeptical and don’t need the religio...

Re: Does your spouse know you post on NOM?

You are right that my wife had a very shallow idea of who I am as a person. During the divorce I mentioned to my mom that I didn't think my wife loved me any more. My mom, a very perceptive person, said "son, she never did". I think deep down I already knew that. I've been on NOM for 5-6 years and ...

Re: Breasts in the news

Story seems really strange. First off, who in their right mind likes drywall dust on their bare skin? Second, who filed the charges or made the complaint? If I had to guess, it was the step children's Mom who heard about it from the step kids. Interesting case. Third, look at the picture that accom...

Re: Wife sent in resignation letter today

Wife sent in resignation letter today. I haven’t even taken that step. She has gone from attending to resigned in less than a year and a half. Still feels weird, I have been dragging my feet on that step. Perhaps when my time in Scouts is up in January I may join her. Mixed emotions on whether to d...

Do you think there will be any backlash or shunning?
I don’t think so. She already has relationships with the people she wants to. Her dad resigned when she was a kid and she doesn’t care what her mom thinks.

I have more trepidation in the backlash department than she does

Re: Mission rules are now just suggestions.

My MP was all about trying to skirt the rules. He was mad they wouldn’t let him bring his Harley on his mission. Each time I see these change in guidelines I have two thoughts. 1. I am happy, these kids need to be themselves 2. Super mad, that I didn’t have agency to choose what is best for me/compa...

Re: Why would you want to help the needy ?

Hello Nomies : Just another rant today. I recently inquired from our branch president as to why the church would not help our middle son with food ? Our middle son has Cerebral palsy from birth is not able to work but does manage to live on his own manage his meager finances from SSI etc . He recen...

Re: The challenges of attending church

I found just two people I could relate to and invited them to do stuff outside of church, like a family bbq. Then we went to late night movies we knew our wives would not watch like John Wick. I felt better about going after that. If I didn’t have them, I wouldn’t have gone. I brought a book and en...

Resign today to celebrate World Toilet Day!

Flush your membership right down the memory hole and then make a donation to the World Toilet Organization!

Then celebrate every year by flushing a few toilets around the house!
I like it.

Re: Wife sent in resignation letter today

She said she feels a lot better now. She is also the most honest and confident person I know. This fits her so well. I think I have gained all I can for Mormonism. But, ward leadership leaves me alone, and are a little scared of our family. We actually still invite people over and are healthier than...

I was outed to my wife by having the old NOM open on a browser. Tough first discussion. It has been better since. She is more out than me now.

Re: Anti-Catholic Litertature Wanted

I like the really cool cathedrals and some of the ritual. But, being Catholic, can’t think of a better way to get a guilt complex... Perhaps read Ken Follet’s, The Pillars of the Earth. This book first put into my head the idea that religion is a to control and manipulate people. Or the new movie on...

RR I think you hit this one out of the park.

The more I see the organization of the Church the more I am convinced it is setup to just protect the Church from ever being taken down. Lots and lots of walls. Just like the Church of Scientology in this regard.

Re: Vaporware Temples

I know Orem pretty well, trying to decide where you put it? I guess somewhere in the suburb sprawl on the West side? I bet they use plans for one of the other temples to save money, or just wait until building slows down. Building costs are through the roof and the airport/prison construction has ma...
