Re: Teaching Gospel Doctrine for Easter tomorrow, got any ideas?

I don't believe in the resurrection or a divine Jesus, but I know a major complaint/criticism of Mormon church meetings is they don't focus enough on Jesus. I heard that a lot as a member, but TBH I found it a relief. There's nothing more aggravating then evangelical sermons where it's just a broke...

Re: Have you had this experience? Care to share?

Most of the time I take stories with a grain of salt, and try to rely on the logos aspect of an argument rather than an ethos aspect, but when access to information is restricted and the only information is from the testimony of others, things often get interesting. Most specifically, I'm referring ...

The Silence (Netflix)

Apocalyptic film similar to The Mist in many ways, but with a premise that makes for a solid thriller. It's more about surviving the threat than it is about exploring human nature under crisis, but it does have sufficient quantities of the latter to satisfy me. The basic premise is the discovery and...

Re: How good is Christianity at making Christ-like people anyway?

I know some historians consider the Reconquista as interlinked with the Crusades, and I'd add that to the list of just wars generally considered to be religiously motivated.

Re: How good is Christianity at making Christ-like people anyway?

I would say that if you look at it's history, Christianity does a very poor job of teaching people to lead Christlike lives. Here is a quick list of things that were done under the name of Christ. Crusades (1-5 Million dead) ... You can go on for quite a while. Humanity in general has a terrible ti...

Is This The Inspiration For Moksha's Username?

Sorry for the callout thread, it was the best way I could think of to ask. Anyway this piece of music is stellar.

Re: BOM Play in SLC this Summer

I'd have told you to save your money friend, but since you didn't I hope you have a good time. I was considering going to see it when it was new, but I watched a twenty minute excerpt of it on youTube and found it almost painful to watch. And I love Parker and Stone, I just think this was stale as h...

History would suggest it would be a disaffected member or someone in danger of being caught in the fraud.

I'm beginning to like this new form of Mormonism. I should consider becoming active again and reapplying for the position of Inquisitor.

Re: How good is Christianity at making Christ-like people anyway?

I think you have to look to nature for these answers. This is going to be a gross oversimplification, but it's generally accepted that nature selected humans with cooperative attributes (due to the likelihood of survival increasing), out of which manifested attributes such as self sacrifice and the ...

I think one of the biggest problems, especially with western religious traditions, is that what you believe and how you believe it is far more important than how you behave.

Would veganism and vegetarianism become the Pharisaical position?
They would never let the Cougars risk losing muscle mass. Vegan diets are very hard to get right with regards to athletics. Meat is kind of "easy mode" in the diet when it comes to being an athlete.

Re: Western vs. Eastern religions

For the Sci-Fi nuts out there, I wonder if the Membari Religion from Babylon 5 is loosely based on Hinduism. The Hindu idea of us being a small part of god is very similar to the Membari idea that live is the universe breaking itself apart in an attempt to understand itself. I believe that comes fr...

Re: WoW pisses me off!

Yea the idea of grains being the staple of human diet doesn't have much backing in scientific literature. At least not in regards to athletic performance in any of the articles and studies I've read. The food we tend to eat is that which can be efficiently grown. With the advent of agriculture, the ...
