Re: Events on Earth 2
I am still waiting for the day when apologetics moves to a parallel universe/alternate history explanation for the Book of Mormon. All of those things really happened, but our current existence has split from that timeline and our current reality did not necessarily literally include those things, p...

Re: Apologizing for your faith?
I like the phrase "I was raised mormon" to describe my position with the church. It's not quite accurate probably since I continue to be involved on the edge of the community, but it's short and gets the point across. Maybe "My family is mormon" would be a better phrase. Those are both great option...

How did Nibley miss this one?
Hugh Nibley is famous for finding the most tenuous parallels between ancient writings and LDS temple ceremonies. For example, he was certain the ancient Egyptians were doing the same endowment we do in Manti, Logan, and Pleasant Grove because an ancient papyrus mentions white and green clothing. I f...

Re: Declining callings and talks is getting easier for me
The BP member thanked us for our efforts but instead of offering another calling, he asked us what calling we would feel comfortable in. We were taken aback and said we'd have to think about it. Bartender! Fashioner of graven images! Strengthening Church Skeptics Committee coordinator! Wish me luck...

Re: NOM needs to be a safe place
Yes, but I should know better than to offer bait. I got thinking about it several days ago and knew I had just given him more to go off about. And then instead of ignoring his rant and taking the conversation back to church topics, I reacted to his derailment. See, I am not always so good myself at...

BTW, it's great to see old friends like Jeffret and Palerider popping up again. I'm hoping we can get some more of the old vibe going.

Re: NOM needs to be a safe place
I probably triggered DB’s rant on my thread... DB's entire interaction with NOM has been a rant. He appeared on the scene in the form of an unsolicited rant wrapped in accusations, and then hovered around waiting for any opportunity to offend. I'm sure he feels very picked on, as these guys usually...

The great thing about the board vanishing for a while is that we get to hear from a few of our dear old friends when it comes back up again.

Re: Is the church headed for a schism ?
I have heard a few examples, but I think they are far from any major change. A trans person can be baptized if they transitioned before investigating the church and if they get direct and specific permission from the First Presidency. Gay couples having callings and taking the sacrament seems to be ...

Re: 9 stories from those who returned to the faith
I was told to just believe. Satan is attacking you. Have more faith. Read your scriptures. Attend the temple Pray more. When I tried to talk to people about it, the following happened: "Yes you DO have a testimony. I have felt it. Why would you deny it?" "You know a testimony is found on your feet,...

Re: Keeping up with Biden
That said, calling someone a shiteater is an interesting approach here. I'm just saddened by the fact that Americans are so starved for inspiring leadership that they have to cling to someone like Donny. It's ok for him to slander everyone else with false claims and childish name calling, but peopl...
