Re: New Years Resolutions

I was watching a clip by Jim Rohne (love that man) who suggested writing at least 50 goals for the next 10 years... Then breaking them down. And it helps to review them regularly. Some goals are discipline - like cutting back on sugar etc. - not real exciting, but still good for you. Other goals rea...

Re: I was willfully ignorant - I shouldn't complain.

HidingInPlainSight, Thanks for sharing this perspective. It's really good to remember how many of us were previously - to be more patient and compassionate with others in our lives who are still working from that paradigm. And it gives me hope that maybe they are thinking about things - beneath all ...

Re: Middle way or bust!

Wow, RedRyder - it's been 12 years! It's understandable you'd be a bit tired of the long road trip. I admire that you're hanging in there - for your marriage and to keep the family together. That's what I'm trying to do also. We came so close to divorcing - and we may once the kids are older, but I ...

Re: 8 Things That Can Pull You Away From the Church

IMO, there are 2 main things that should pull people away from - or at least have boundaries with - the church. 1. Financial corruption - come on - there's another shopping mall build with money gathered in the name of Jesus Christ. And consider how you have to pay to go to the temple. Even if you'r...

Re: Middle way or bust!

Thanks, guys! There are some days when it feels like the yellow brick road, and others when I'm barely hanging from Everest. RedRyder, 5 years? A lot depends. Leadership roulette - you know. And my marriage has taken several hits. But assuming I'm lucky, I'll be doing as I am similarly now - b...

Re: Faith and Evidence

I have faith when evidence is lacking, but I won't stubbornly stick to my faith when it contradicts evidence. The scriptures say faith is evidence of things not seen, but are nevertheless true. This suggests to me that: a) you can only have "faith" in things that are true, b) by definition, believi...

Re: James Fowler's Stages of Faith: A Description of the Theory (Part 2)

I like how this is laid out - it helps to see some sense of development spiritually. I haven't read Fowler's book, but of what I have read, it seems that he doesn't explain much about the process between stages 4 -6. Carl Jung and some others have mentioned more like about shadow aspects (dark night...

Re: Going back

I don't know what to say other than I hope some good comes out of all of this, especially for the sake of children (guessing there are).

If you believe in prayer, now's a good time to invest in that - to get guidance.

Re: Faith and Evidence

I really believe that "all have faith but not all are conscious of having faith." We all believe things that cannot be proven - because subjectivity is inevitable. The problem arises when people are blind to how they apply faith - so their faith may be misapplied. IE: So many foods have poisonous ad...

Re: A good thing about Mormonism

I rarely watch the news, so this was news to me. In reading about how a class - which included various faiths and non-religious - decided on their own to pray while they were in lock down. That was inspiring to me. It gives me hope that that within all of us is some core goodness - we hope the best ...

Middle way or bust!

Hello, I've come to realize that the best way - at least for me personally, is the middle way (the NOM way). I think this applies to a lot - between extremes is usually the ideal, but especially with the church. My husband is quite TBM and many of my family and friends are. The U2 song, "With or wit...
