Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #7 (NOM)

Taken at face value, and due to how freaking vague the question is, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who can answer "no". Sure, if you explain to the Bishop you mean that you pay taxes to government and government engages in practices contrary to church teachings, or that your degree af...

Re: If you don't believe in a God who intervenes in our lives, how do you make peace with big life decisions and changes

If you don't believe that God gives you direction, then it has been you all along. Hang onto that thought. It has always been you! You are capable of doing this, so believe in yourself and your own good sense. One technique I use is to imagine having a conversation with a god or infinite being. As I...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #7 (NOM)

The original intent of this question was to ferret out polygamists. (Like asking a simple question was really going to do the trick.) So that is the interpretation I use. No, I don't affiliate with groups who oppose the teachings of the LDS church. Unless you count NOM, John Dehlin, mama dragons, fm...

Re: A different Q15 --------- Question #5 (Chastity--is it getting hot in here?)

I'm not sure that members have much access to this definition Of the LOC from the Encyclopedia of Mormonism, a publication meant to explain Mormonism to the wider world. I'm not sure what the authors' level of approval was needed from the upper management, but, probably some, like BRM's Gospel Doctr...

Re: Does Satan tempt the General Authorities?

“ Some time ago HEBER KIMBALL was lecturing some missionaries who were preparing to start out on foreign missions, in the Tabernacle, and said to them: "Brethren, I want you to understand that it is not to be as it has been heretofore. The brother Missionaries have been in the habit of picking out ...

Re: A different Q15 ---------- Question #3 (Restoration)

I struggle to answer this because it now seems so vague to me. But I know what they think it means and I know I don't agree with that. I think he thought he was restoring stuff. But the more I read about JS the more complicated I find him. Same here.i have no idea what this means. I know what the q...

Re: A different Q15 ---------- Question #4 (which actually includes three questions)

I sustain all these leaders to the same extent that GBH did - I agree that they are called such (called meaning that's their title, not that God personally chose them.). Somebody has to be the leaders, especially local leaders and I am glad it's not me. One of my biggest issues with the church is th...

Re: What would the church prefer

What the church would prefer is that you hold a TR because that is a good metric of the church's success. If they expect total honesty, they should be totally honest themselves. Some people can nuance the questions to fit their personal answers into the prescribed format. Stick simply to yes and no ...

Well, he ought to know the lingo. His dad was a GA too. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_J ... ch_service
I thought the name sounded familiar and I knew how to pronounce it. I may have interacted with the Elder Brough in the past in some way.

Re: A Week Without G's

In six years or so since I stopped wearing garments no one has ever said a word to me about it, except dh. He asked once. * DH seems to enjoy it... * My bra is mildly irritating my skin without that extra layer in between - maybe I need a different size or to wait longer than a week to pass judgemen...

Wow Give It Time, you put some serious thought into your post. If we had that kind of environment I may not have left in the first place. Did you mention priesthood for women? Because full equality of opportunity for men and women might make me change my mind. Less emphasis on obedience to man made ...

Any of you guys or gals old enough to remember that oft repeated LDS story about the little kid who was born without ears? Re: Lightning Survey: Before the 2014 Plural Marriage Essay, did you know that Joseph Smith practiced it HIMSELF?

Yes, but I learned it so far back I don't know how it came to be. Just part of my culture I guess. My mother knew her grandfather's polygamist wives when she was a child, so the situation of polygamy was well known in our family. I also knew a rumor of Eliza Snow being married to JS. Probably picked...

I'm still an active member, if by that you mean do I show up to sacrament meeting regularly. I also have a calling which keeps me from attending SS or RS. Darn :D I don't VT, pay tithing or have a TR. Dh is TBM so this will be my profile for the foreseeable future.

Re: The Quiet Death of the Old School

So true. I like to keep in mind that NO ONE really knows. There is plenty of evidence for that if you need it, see any of the LDS essays. The problem is when TBMs really believe one speculation or another and base their decisions and conversations on these unknown assumptions, like divorcing over fa...
