Re: I Find Myself Hoping Your Plane Crashes
I don't think she really wants you dead. I think she just sees that as the only way to get you believing the "truth" and avoiding the embarrassment of having a non believing apostate spouse. So, I think she is catastrophsizing your disaffection in the way the church teaches people to do, the kind o...

Re: A House Built on Sand
What are the limits of acceptance in an LDS congregation for trying to openly build your house upon a rock of non-literal commitment? It probably depends a lot on where you live. In the MorCor I'd say it's pretty close to zero. If you don't believe in Moroni it's probably assumed to be the direct r...

Well..as a polygamist, he has to rotate homes right? Depending on how many sister wives there are we might not be back on the rotation for a while....

Re: Taking off the garment
I really appreciated reading everyone's comments on this thread. I never felt strongly about them or what they were supposed to represent. I guess I never had a testimony of garments. My dad faithfully wore his (one-piece!!) but my mom used to struggle to wear hers after she moved to the 2 piece. So...

Re: 5 years ago
I have an in-law that recently committed suicide. It was devastating for my spouse's family. His childhood, and honestly entire life, was probably 80% incredibly dysfunctional. A few years ago, I'd had enough and just pulled away from him rather abruptly. I was civil/kind but avoided and basically n...

Re: Word of Wisdom question
See this is the kind of stuff that makes me crazy! Word of Wisdom says NO hot drinks--but you can have Hot Chocolate, Hot Cider and Hot Sanka. It's not about the Caffeine so you can have soda. BUT If it's not about the caffeine why can you have decaffeinated Sanka COFFEE?!? Isn't it the coffee part ...

Re: 8 Things That Can Pull You Away From the Church
I studied more, prayed more, worried more..not less. I tried to be more perfectly obedient hoping I'd get the answers I desperately wanted. I got answers...and now they've turned out to be great answers--liberating! But at the time it was devastating. This article feels insulting

Re: I was willfully ignorant - I shouldn't complain.
I don't know...I feel like I read and heard things but ignored them because I'd been told it was "anti material". We were so indoctrinated. So I guess I'd prefer to think I was brain-washed more than I ignored...We were trained to reject logic, inconsistencies, racism, misogyny....

Re: New Years Resolutions
I love new year's resolutions. And I love them more now that I'm not a believer. When I was TBM goals had a tinge of guilt or shame--like I'd never be good enough. Now it's just joyful. I've got hikes on my list, improving my SUP skills, coming up with a solid plan for transitioning out of the churc...

Word of Wisdom question
Since the church has clarified that the WOW is specifically about coffee and tea and not about soda or caffeine, etc.....I was curious: 1. Is Cold Coffee/Iced Tea ok? 2. Are coffee flavored rubs/marinades, desserts, ice creams ok? can you answer an honest yes to the WOW question in the WOW if you in...

Re: "We don't practice Mormonism anymore."
It's simple and it works while leaving you higher on the mormon totem pole/org chart/social scale. Here's the lower half of the hierarchy as I see it. Liberal Mormons Inactive Mormons Jack Mormons Non practicing Mormons Unbelievers Ex-Mormons Each label has a social consequence. Pick your label wis...

Re: SM Talk....
Returning and reporting. Took the single topic I could feel good about in the GC talk and focused on it. Got more positive feedback than I've ever gotten after a talk. Was referenced in prayers, SS and RS comments. I think there are more of us out there than we realize......

Re: SM Talk....
Thanks for the perspective everyone. I can't share the talk-still a little paranoid. But I did find one scripture in there that I felt good about and I'm basing my entire talk around it and I feel much better about it. NOM is the best.

SM Talk....
We moved into a new ward recently and I knew we'd be asked to speak. I'd been thinking about some of the advice on this board--stick to topics I can stomach--being a person of good character, service, etc. Well..guess what? my assignment is a recent GC talk that I HATED. I'm trying to think how to s...

Re: Assumptions of evidence
We did the same at Tulum
My dad served a mission in NY and swears the farmers there talked about finding Nephite/Lamanite swords and arrowheads when they plowed. I asked where all of this evidence is and if he saw any of it.... Crickets.

Re: MacKay - Seer Stones Fair Podcast
I always come back to Hagoth's points as well-why weren't they in the curriculum? Pictures? Conference talks? Why were people excommunicated for talking/writing about these things then? I have a friend that constantly defends the church and with every new revelation convinces herself she already kne...

Re: Fun E-mail and Response
Arg! That is so frustrating. Your response was perfect and kind. I hate it when people assign a feeling you did not portray to play the victim instead of analyzing their own behavior and prejudices. I had a similar exchange with a TBM recently where she continually misunderstood the topic of convers...
